Today, the 16th of Nissan, is the first day of Sefiras HaOmer (the Counting of the Omer). For many years, our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days), has mentioned in his lessons that according to some commentators, today was the day Haman the Wicked was hanged. Before you is an excerpt from a lesson given by our teacher, the Rav shlit"a, in the year 5769 (2009) regarding the greatness of this day:

"'On that night, the king's sleep was disturbed' (Esther 6:1). That night was already the conclusion of Pesach (Passover); it was the first night of Sefiras HaOmer (the Counting of the Omer), and Haman was terrified of this night! As it is written here in Torah 10, from this night of Sefiras HaOmer—Haman knew that the night of Sefiras HaOmer was arriving. Therefore, it is written in Likutey Halachos (Collected Laws), 'Appointing a Messenger to Collect a Debt,' Law 3, that he feared this night. He knew that on the night of Sefiras HaOmer [it is possible to subdue him]. The word 'LaOmer' (to the Omer) is an acronym for 'Me'igra Rama L'Bira Amikta' (from a high roof to a deep pit). He knew that the moment the Jews would count one day of the Omer, it would be his end. Therefore, he built the gallows fifty cubits high; it is written in Tikkunei Zohar on page 52, Tikkun 21, that this is why he built the gallows fifty cubits high—to nullify the power of Sefiras HaOmer. His entire intention was to nullify the power of Sefiras HaOmer. Because the moment Sefiras HaOmer arrives, then it is 'from a high roof to a deep pit'! Then it is possible to topple all the enemies and all the accusers—all the accusers that exist against the People of Israel!

And this is the secret of Sefiras HaOmer: 'Ayin Mor' (Eye of Myrrh). What is 'Omer'? 'Ayin Mor,' for then Mordechai merited to see and to show everyone Hashem (God) eye to eye! This is the secret of Sefiras HaOmer—when the first night of Sefiras HaOmer arrived, which 'LaOmer' is an acronym for: 'Me'igra Rama L'Bira Amikta' (from a high roof to a deep pit). Then the Rebbe [Nachman] says 'LaOmer' is not only 'from a high roof to a deep pit,' but as it is written in Sefer HaMiddos (The Book of Traits), 'LaOmer' means to see Hashem eye to eye! For Mordechai, who is the 'Mor Dror' (pure myrrh), who is the myrrh that is pure and clean, who is the 'myrrh flowing upon the handles of the lock' (Song of Songs 5:5)—he pierces through all the locks. There is no lock that he does not pierce! He can pierce every lock in the world, every concealment in the world, even the state of 'I will surely hide My face' (Deuteronomy 31:18)!
