The Secret of the Eighth King: From the Rectification of the Vessels to the Revelation of Hashem's Kingship in the Seventh Millennium

Class No. 9 | Tuesday, 16 Iyar 5755 - Class in the Yeshiva

Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a explains the secret of the eighth king, Hadar, who gathers the sparks of the breaking of the vessels throughout the six thousand years of the world's existence. By resolving the contradiction between the Book of Genesis and Chronicles, it is explained how the attribute of Gevurah (Severity) balances Chesed (Loving-kindness), leading up to the absolute nullification and the revelation of Hashem's complete kingship in the seventh millennium, accompanied by the melody of the Future to Come.

When Mashiach ben David arrives, the Divine Name of MaH will be nullified, and only the two lights of A"B and Sa"G will remain. Rabbi Chaim Vital writes regarding this that he has explained enough, for it is known that people were afraid to read the secrets of the book "Etz Chaim" (Tree of Life), and admitted that whoever reads them incurs the death penalty.

The great difficulty that arises in these secrets concerns the Kings of Edom. In the Book of Genesis, it is said of the eighth king, Hadar (who is Hadad in Chronicles), that he did not die, and he is the one currently making all the tikkunim (rectifications). However, in the Book of Chronicles, it explicitly states: "And Hadad died." If so, does he ultimately die or not?

The "Emek HaMelech" (Part 46, page 25) resolves this difficulty. He explains that the greatest secrets are revealed specifically in the Book of Chronicles, in the verse:
> "And these are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the Children of Israel."

The Breaking of the Vessels and the Secret of the Name of MaH

In the beginning, Hashem created seven kings, and they all broke. The reason for the breaking was that they were in the aspect of male without female. When there is only one force, each one thinks to himself: "I am important, I will rule" – I am the only one in the world. Since each one thought he was the sole reality, they shattered from the abundance of light, and all the vessels fell apart.

Afterward, Hashem created a new king, Hadar. This king is currently gathering all the broken sparks through the Name of MaH. However, the Name of MaH is composed of two, because Hashem established that there must be an additional force to stop and balance.

For example, Avraham Avinu wanted to bless Yishmael and Esav out of his immense love and Chesed. Therefore, Hashem created the Name of Ba"N, the attribute of Gevurah, so that Gevurah would tell him: "Up to here. Sir, you are a tzaddik, holy and pure, Avraham Avinu, Yitzchak – but only up to here." There must be a force that stops a person and halts unlimited expansion.

Six Thousand Years of Clarification

This dynamic of male and female, of Chesed and Gevurah, is the process taking place over the course of six thousand years. All the birurim (clarifications of sparks) are intended to reach the Name of MaH. A person must walk in self-nullification, in fear and trembling, and through this, everyone will do teshuvah (repentance). The eighth king will perform his clarifications over six thousand years—either he will do it in a good way with songs and dances, or, God forbid, each person will choose the difficult path for themselves.

Therefore, the "Emek HaMelech" explains the contradiction: What is written in the Book of Genesis, that the king Hadar did not die, refers to the period of six thousand years. For six thousand years, this king will live, act, and complete all the clarifications.

But what is written in Chronicles, that he did die, speaks of the end of the sixth millennium and the beginning of the seventh millennium. At that time, Hashem's kingship will be revealed in the world, the female aspect will be nullified and included within the male, and the entire world will be at the peak of humility and lowliness. Then, Hashem's kingship alone will be revealed, the Name of A"B, and the verse will be fulfilled:
> "And Hashem shall be King over all the earth; on that day Hashem shall be One, and His Name One."

The Melody of the Future to Come and the Secret of Tzitzis

In the Future to Come, the seventy-two strings of the Name of A"B will be elevated. The song of the Future to Come is the voice that waters the garden, raising all the good fragrances and scents to demonstrate the virtue of Israel, in the aspect of "my spikenard yielded its fragrance."

The voice of this melody is the Torah of Moshe Rabbeinu, whose every utterance was a melody. This is also the secret of David's harp. Through the mitzvah of tzitzis, which represents the corners of the earth, voices and melodies emerge. When a person walks with tzitzis, a thread of loving-kindness is drawn upon him, and he can literally hear the songs and praises.

From what will the melodies of the Future to Come be made? These are the melodies of Mashiach, from which all the holy songs and praises in the world are drawn. The secret of the techeiles (blue thread) in the tzitzis is the secret of the prayer of the true tzaddik, who has never blemished himself. Only he can pray such a prayer, with the song and melody of Mashiach, through which all deliberate sins are transformed into merits, as was hidden in the root of the dispute between Korach, and between Kayin and Hevel.
