"The Spies Sinned Because the Souls of the Brothers Left Them" – A Lesson from the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Berland shlit"a, in Kfar Shalem, Tel Aviv
19 Kislev, Parshat Vayeshev, the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days), delivers a lesson at a home-circle (a small gathering) in Kfar Shalem, Tel Aviv. These are his holy words: "At the time when Joseph accused the brothers of coming to spy out the nakedness of the land, he was hinting to them about all future events until the end of generations. Therefore, he said to them, 'You are spies,' because the souls of the Tribes (the sons of Jacob) were *impregnated* (ibbur - a mystical process where a soul joins a living person) into the Spies (sent by Moses), but the Spies did not utilize this; they blemished them. Judah was *impregnated* into Caleb, and the soul of Levi was *impregnated* into Joshua bin Nun, and they did not leave them; therefore, they did not sin, while all the others sinned."
"Luz (the name of a city/bone) is the bitter nut. Luz corresponds to Leah (the upper part of the spiritual structure—from the crown to the waist) and Beit El corresponds to Rachel (the lower part—from the waist to the end of the feet). It is necessary for the Luz to enter into the Beit El, meaning that Leah should enter into Rachel and Rachel into Leah."
