The True Rosh Hashanah Is Tu BiShvat! • Summary of the Melaveh Malkah Shiur, Parshas Beshalach, from the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Presented here is a summary of topics from the shiur as it was delivered by The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, at the fourth meal—Melaveh Malkah—on Motzaei Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Beshalach (Shabbos Shirah), 5786:

1. Chayei Moharan 8: The “Rebbe” went to Nachman Natan—he was the greatest apikores in all of Russia. Rebbe Nachman subdued the apikorsim at their root. 2. When Rabbi Hirsch Leib (Lipl) passed away, he cried out only: “Rebbe, Rebbe, Rebbe.” Rabbi Hirsch Leib was the greatest tzaddik. 3. Golyas said to King David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with a stick?” David told him: You are a dog, son of a dog. 4. Up to the splitting of the Sea of Reeds it was called Aharon’s staff; from the Sea of Reeds onward it was called Moshe’s staff. On Moshe’s staff were written the names of all the plagues, and on the other side was a snake. 5. Rabbi Shmuel bar Rabbi Nachman knocked on Rashi’s grave and asked to know the secret of “oso imo eilav.” After he blackened his teeth through fasting, Rashi revealed himself to him and told him it is the secret of Eldad and Meidad. 6. “Boshesh lavo”—they did not understand why Moshe was late; Moshe was exacting. The truth is that they waited and at first did not believe the Angel of Death that Moshe had died. Then he showed them his bier, and they broke down—but the truth is that a tzaddik never dies. 7. The true Rosh Hashanah is Tu BiShvat. Now all the shefa is opening—everyone will have millions. 8. The women did not sin with the Golden Calf, and the men tore off their nose-rings and earrings together with their ears; therefore the women received Rosh Chodesh, when it is forbidden to sew except for the sake of tznius. 9. The tribe of Shimon wiped out Amalek; all the Germans are literally Amalek. 10. The whole purpose of prayer is to reach dancing. If a person does not dance, the prayer does not ascend. 11. Michal laughed at David, and therefore her five children died (who were born from Adriel ben Barzillai). 12. The boys are learning about making a maakeh and guarding one’s life—Part 4. There is a chiddush there that I have never heard in my life; Rabbi Nosson writes chiddushim like this that no ear has ever heard! 13. If a woman is holy like a rock, then the children will also be holy—like the sons of Tzeruyah who flew in the air. 14. There were three levels of women in Egypt: The first level—women who wanted to give birth in the field. The Egyptians chased them and brought plows, but the angels guarded them in the depths of the earth: “And they sprouted from the city like the grass of the earth.” Those women who did not manage to give birth in the field ran to the Nile; the Egyptians wanted to drown the babies in the Nile, but the angels carried them to the other side of the Nile: “He fed him with the fat of wheat, and with honey from the rock I will satisfy you.” And those who did not manage— the Egyptians placed the babies into the wall, and the women cried beneath the wall and prayed; then: “The trap broke, and we escaped.”
