To Increase Yearning - Words of the Esteemed Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland at
the Mass Gathering in Bat Yam - Chanukah 5778 - "From David's Candles Came Melodies"

These are the holy words of the Gaon and Tzaddik Rav Eliezer Berland shlit"a in a lesson he delivered at a Chanukah gathering in Bat Yam in 5778. "And the entire tribe of Reuven crossed the Sambation River, and this is what is written, 'Let Reuven live and not die, and let his men be a count' (Deuteronomy 33:6); the tribe of Reuven did not surrender to the calves of Jeroboam ben Nebat. The tribe of Reuven fought with self-sacrifice, 'Zebulun is a people that jeopardized its life to death' (Judges 5:18). David hid in caves; David was pursued by the entire nation of Israel. David had no sin, he had no improper thought, and therefore his son Solomon built the Holy Temple. Because David would play the harp all night long."
"The harp is the 26 candles, the candles of Chanukah. From the candles of David, melodies would emerge. There is an angel with a thousand heads, a thousand mouths, a thousand tongues, a thousand voices, with a thousand melodies; the angel heard every second how David fought the wars of Hashem. David knew the entire Gemara, all the complexities of Abaye and Rava; he was the first to compose the Mishnah, and therefore he lives and exists forever."
