"Tuesday of Beshalach" • Parshas HaMan for Reading (Twice Scripture and Once Translation) and a Collection of Prayers for Abundant Livelihood from the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Today, Tuesday of Parshas Beshalach, the Jewish people are accustomed to reading Parshas HaMan (the Torah portion regarding the Manna) as a segulah (spiritual remedy) for livelihood: Before you is Parshas HaMan for reading, followed by a collection of prayers from our teacher, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, for abundant parnassah (livelihood):

May it be Your will, Hashem our G-d and G-d of our fathers, that You provide parnassah (livelihood) for all Your people, the House of Israel, and my livelihood and the livelihood of the members of my household among them. May it be with ease and not with pain, with honor and not with disgrace, in a permitted way and not in a forbidden way, so that we may be able to perform Your service and study Your Torah, just as You fed our fathers Manna in the desert, in a land of drought and wilderness:

Hashem said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain down for you bread from heaven; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, so that I may test them, whether they will walk in My Torah or not." Hashem said to Moses, "Behold, I will rain down for you bread from heaven; and the people shall go out and gather a day's portion every day, so that I may test them, whether they will walk in My Torah or not." And Hashem said to Moses: Behold, I am bringing down for you bread from the heavens, and the people shall go out and gather the matter of the day on its day, in order that I may test them, whether they walk in My Torah or not. (Targum)

"And it shall be on the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it shall be double what they gather daily." "And it shall be on the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it shall be double what they gather daily." And it shall be on the sixth day, and they shall prepare that which they bring, and it shall be double over that which they gather day by day. (Targum)

Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, "At evening, you shall know that Hashem has brought you out of the land of Egypt." Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, "At evening, you shall know that Hashem has brought you out of the land of Egypt." And Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel: In the evening you shall know that Hashem brought you out from the land of Egypt. (Targum)

"And in the morning, you shall see the glory of Hashem, for He has heard your complaints against Hashem; and what are we, that you should complain against us?" "And in the morning, you shall see the glory of Hashem, for He has heard your complaints against Hashem; and what are we, that you should complain against us?" And in the morning you shall see the glory of Hashem, when your complaints are heard before Him against the Word of Hashem; and what are we, that you should complain against us? (Targum)

Moses said, "When Hashem gives you meat to eat in the evening and bread to the full in the morning, for Hashem has heard your complaints which you complain against Him; and what are we? Your complaints are not against us, but against Hashem." Moses said, "When Hashem gives you meat to eat in the evening and bread to the full in the morning, for Hashem has heard your complaints which you complain against Him; and what are we? Your complaints are not against us, but against Hashem." And Moses said: When Hashem gives you meat to eat in the evening and bread in the morning to satisfy, because your complaints are heard before Hashem which you complain against Him; and what are we? Your complaints are not against us, but against the Word of Hashem. (Targum)

Moses said to Aaron, "Say to the entire congregation of the children of Israel: Draw near before Hashem, for He has heard your complaints." Moses said to Aaron, "Say to the entire congregation of the children of Israel: Draw near before Hashem, for He has heard your complaints." And Moses said to Aaron: Say to the entire congregation of the children of Israel, draw near before Hashem, for your complaints are heard before Him. (Targum)

And it was, as Aaron spoke to the entire congregation of the children of Israel, that they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of Hashem appeared in the cloud. And it was, as Aaron spoke to the entire congregation of the children of Israel, that they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of Hashem appeared in the cloud. And it was, as Aaron spoke with the entire congregation of the children of Israel, and they turned toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of Hashem was revealed in the cloud. (Targum)

Hashem spoke to Moses, saying: Hashem spoke to Moses, saying: And Hashem spoke with Moses, saying: (Targum)

"I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel; speak to them, saying: 'At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am Hashem your G-d.'" "I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel; speak to them, saying: 'At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am Hashem your G-d.'" The complaint of the children of Israel is heard before Me; speak with them, saying: Between the suns (twilight) you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be satisfied with bread, and you shall know that I am Hashem your G-d. (Targum)

And it was in the evening, that the quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning, there was a layer of dew around the camp. And it was in the evening, that the quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning, there was a layer of dew around the camp. And it was in the evening, and the quails ascended and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a descent of dew all around the camp. (Targum)

The layer of dew ascended, and behold, on the surface of the wilderness, there was something thin and flaky, thin as frost on the ground. The layer of dew ascended, and behold, on the surface of the wilderness, there was something thin and flaky, thin as frost on the ground. And the descent of dew ascended, and behold, on the surface of the wilderness, something fine and peeled, fine as the frost on the ground. (Targum)

The children of Israel saw it and said to one another, "What is it?" (Man Hu) for they did not know what it was. Moses said to them, "It is the bread that Hashem has given you to eat." The children of Israel saw it and said to one another, "What is it?" for they did not know what it was. Moses said to them, "It is the bread that Hashem has given you to eat." And the children of Israel saw and said, a man to his brother, "It is manna," for they did not know what it was; and Moses said to them, "It is the bread that Hashem has given you to eat." (Targum)

"This is the thing that Hashem has commanded: Gather of it, every man according to his eating; an omer per head, according to the number of your persons, every man for those in his tent shall you take." "This is the thing that Hashem has commanded: Gather of it, every man according to his eating; an omer per head, according to the number of your persons, every man for those in his tent shall you take." This is the word that Hashem commanded: Gather from it, a man according to his eating, an omer for a head, the count of your souls, a man for those in his dwelling you shall take. (Targum)

The children of Israel did so; and they gathered, some more and some less. The children of Israel did so; and they gathered, some more and some less. And the children of Israel did so, and they gathered, he who increased and he who diminished. (Targum)

They measured it with an omer, and he who gathered much had no excess, and he who gathered little had no deficiency; they gathered every man according to his eating. They measured it with an omer, and he who gathered much had no excess, and he who gathered little had no deficiency; they gathered every man according to his eating. And they measured with an omer, and he who increased did not have more, and he who diminished did not have less; a man according to his eating they gathered. (Targum)

Moses said to them, "Let no man leave any of it until morning." Moses said to them, "Let no man leave any of it until morning." And Moses said to them: Let no man leave from it until morning. (Targum)

But they did not listen to Moses, and some men left of it until morning, and it bred worms and became foul; and Moses was angry with them. But they did not listen to Moses, and some men left of it until morning, and it bred worms and became foul; and Moses was angry with them. And they did not receive from Moses, and men left from it until morning, and it swarmed with worms and became foul, and Moses was angry with them. (Targum)

They gathered it morning by morning, every man according to his eating; and when the sun grew hot, it melted. They gathered it morning by morning, every man according to his eating; and when the sun grew hot, it melted. And they gathered it morning by morning, a man according to his eating, and what remained of it on the surface of the field, when the sun heated upon it, it melted. (Targum)

And it was on the sixth day, that they gathered double bread, two omers for each one; and all the princes of the congregation came and told Moses. And it was on the sixth day, that they gathered double bread, two omers for each one; and all the princes of the congregation came and told Moses. And it was on the sixth day, they gathered bread double, two omers for one, and all the leaders of the congregation came and showed Moses. (Targum)

He said to them, "This is what Hashem has spoken: Tomorrow is a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to Hashem. Bake what you will bake, and cook what you will cook; and all that remains, put aside for yourselves to be kept until morning." He said to them, "This is what Hashem has spoken: Tomorrow is a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to Hashem. Bake what you will bake, and cook what you will cook; and all that remains, put aside for yourselves to be kept until morning." And he said to them: This is what Hashem spoke, a rest, a holy Sabbath before Hashem tomorrow; that which you are destined to bake, bake, and that which you are destined to cook, cook, and all the remainder store for yourselves to be kept until morning. (Targum)

They put it aside until morning, as Moses had commanded; and it did not become foul, nor were there any worms in it. They put it aside until morning, as Moses had commanded; and it did not become foul, nor were there any worms in it. And they stored it until morning as Moses commanded, and it did not become foul and there were no worms in it. (Targum)

Moses said, "Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to Hashem; today you will not find it in the field." Moses said, "Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to Hashem; today you will not find it in the field." And Moses said: Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath before Hashem; today you shall not find it in the field. (Targum)

"Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none." "Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none." Six days you shall gather it, and on the seventh day, the Sabbath, it shall not be in it. (Targum)

And it was on the seventh day, that some of the people went out to gather, but they found nothing. And it was on the seventh day, that some of the people went out to gather, but they found nothing. And it was on the seventh day, they went out from the people to gather and they did not find. (Targum)

Hashem said to Moses, "How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?" Hashem said to Moses, "How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?" And Hashem said to Moses: Until when do you refuse to keep My commandments and My Torah? (Targum)

"See that Hashem has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day." "See that Hashem has given you the Sabbath; therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days. Let every man remain in his place; let no man go out of his place on the seventh day." See that Hashem gave you the Sabbath, therefore He gives you on the sixth day bread for two days; stay every man in his place, let no man go out from his place on the seventh day. (Targum)

So the people rested on the seventh day. So the people rested on the seventh day. And the people rested on the seventh day. (Targum)

The House of Israel called its name Manna; and it was like white coriander seed, and its taste was like wafers with honey. The House of Israel called its name Manna; and it was like white coriander seed, and its taste was like wafers with honey. And the House of Israel called its name Manna, and it was like white coriander seed and its taste was like wafers with honey. (Targum)

Moses said, "This is the thing that Hashem has commanded: Let an omerful of it be kept for your generations, so that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt." Moses said, "This is the thing that Hashem has commanded: Let an omerful of it be kept for your generations, so that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt." And Moses said: This is the word that Hashem commanded, fill an omer from it to be kept for your generations, in order that they may see the bread that I fed you in the wilderness when I brought you out from the land of Egypt. (Targum)

Moses said to Aaron, "Take a jar and put an omerful of Manna in it, and place it before Hashem, to be kept for your generations." Moses said to Aaron, "Take a jar and put an omerful of Manna in it, and place it before Hashem, to be kept for your generations." And Moses said to Aaron: Take one flask and put there an omerful of manna and store it before Hashem to be kept for your generations. (Targum)

As Hashem had commanded Moses, Aaron placed it before the Testimony, to be kept. As Hashem had commanded Moses, Aaron placed it before the Testimony, to be kept. As Hashem commanded Moses, Aaron stored it before the Testimony to be kept. (Targum)

The children of Israel ate the Manna for forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the Manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan. The children of Israel ate the Manna for forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate the Manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan. And the children of Israel ate the manna forty years until their coming to an inhabited land; they ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan. (Targum)

Now an omer is a tenth of an ephah. Now an omer is a tenth of an ephah. And an omer is one out of ten in three seahs. (Targum)

Before you is a prayer from our teacher, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, which speaks in part of the descent of the Manna:

To merit the creation of the world anew and to subdue all the arudim (venomous spiritual obstacles) in the world, and to connect the heels of Leah with the crown of Rachel through faith, joy, song, and dancing—the "Head of the House" (Rosh Bayis) is the root of all worlds.

Master of the World, All-Powerful, merit me to the creation of the world anew, the secret of "Bereishis" (In the beginning), the secret of "Rosh Bayis" (Head of the house), the secret of "Es Rashb"i" (the holy Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai), the root for all worlds was created, the secret of the Goblet (Gavia) 13 × 72 = 936, the secret of Mordechai and Esther = 936+1, the secret of Mattathias and his sons 936+1, for through Bereishis, teshuvah (repentance) from love, we merit the secret of the Father's song, that we may merit to sing and play music day and night = 177, and then we enter with the body into Gan Eden (Paradise) = 177, like Serach daughter of Asher = 1411, who entered with her body into Gan Eden, and all her thoughts were to eliminate Esau, who is the root of evil, like Orpah who was the root of evil for all generations, and through the word "Bereishis" we subdue them all, and merit the lights of the Infinite (Ein Sof), and to subdue the King of Arad 274, who is the root for all the arudim (venomous creatures) in the world, which are created from the separation between the heel of Leah and the crown of Rachel, and this is "How beautiful are your steps in sandals," when the feet of Leah connect with the crown of Rachel, and the crown of Rachel becomes the sandals of Leah, and then Leah has sandals, in the secret of "and the needy for a pair of sandals," and then there are sandals for the Shechinah (Divine Presence) to descend below ten handbreadths, which we merit on Chanukah, when the Shechinah receives sandals to descend below ten handbreadths, and therefore "Joseph was brought down to Egypt" to the place of the klipos (husks of evil), because he already merited sandals that protect him, as he merited to connect the heels of Leah with the crown of Rachel, and then "Upon Edom I will cast my sandal" and this is the secret of "A womb, two wombs for the head of a man," that the abundance of mercy was revealed in the merit of Yael, who turned into the High Priest, who is Eli, and from them came Abaye whose ruling followed him in Ya"el K"gam, the secret of the filling of E-k-y-e 143, for Joseph merited to rectify all the tzimtzumim (contractions) in the world, through faith, joy, and dancing for 12 years, which he did not cease from for even a single second, and only saw Hashem eye to eye, for Yael "shattered and struck his head, pierced his temple," by connecting the heel of Leah with the crown of Rachel, and this is the secret of "Go out in the footsteps of the sheep," they are Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who connected the heels of Leah with the crown of Rachel, which is the secret of "The white streaks which were on the rods," and then Jacob merited to connect the heels of Leah with the crown of Rachel, and then his blessing was fulfilled "That bites the horse's heels so that his rider falls backward," that he connected Rachel and Leah, and then Samson was born, who brought down the entire house with millions of people, in the merit of the eye that was gouged out, for there are Ekev (172) words in the Ten Commandments, in order to connect the heels of Leah with the crown of Rachel, and then the crown of Rachel becomes the sandal of Leah, and then "Upon Edom I will cast my sandal," and it is not written my sword or my spear, only "my sandal," for the moment the heels of Leah turn into the crown of Rachel, then the end will come upon Esau, as it is said "Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed" "The mighty men of Moab, trembling seizes them" = 274, Rachel Leah = 274, for the moment the heels of Leah connect with the crown of Rachel, then "All the inhabitants of Canaan melted away," and the end will come for all the enemies of Israel, who are Ammon, Moab, and Edom, like in the days of Jehoshaphat, when they all gathered at Ein Gedi, Edom, Moab, and Ammon, and as soon as the people of Israel began with song, immediately "Give thanks to Hashem for His kindness is forever," immediately every man's sword was against his fellow, and by the time they reached the village of Yeruel, they found them all as dead corpses, and Dathan and Abiram who did not want to believe in the greatness of the miracle of the Manna, and went out on the Sabbath day to gather from the Manna, and damaged the secret of "Bereishis," "Yarei Shabbos" (Fear of Sabbath), "Yarei Boshes" (Fear of Shame), and then all the arudim (venomous creatures) that harm human beings came out into the world, 'for woe to the man whom an arud (venomous creature) has harmed, and woe to the arud that Rabbi Chanina ben Dosa has harmed,' who already connected the heels of Leah with the crown of Rachel, and through this said to his daughter 'He who told the oil to burn will tell the vinegar to burn' and it is impossible to connect the heels of Leah with the crown of Rachel, except through song and dancing.
