Watch: “This is a persecution of Judaism against the savior of Judaism” — More from Rav Salma about the unprecedented incitement against the gaon and holy Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a
The Torah says severe things about those who incite against the Torah and against the Tzaddikim. However, today we do not have the full power of Torah, because the Shechinah is in exile, and therefore it is forbidden to carry out the punishments written regarding inciters—but the words are written and stated in the Torah. There are mitzvos described among the 613 mitzvos in an unequivocal way: not to speak in defense of an inciter, and far more than that. And the question is—against whom are they really inciting? After all, The Rav shlit"a and his students are engaged day and night in wholehearted, strenuous service of Hashem. These are righteous, G-d-fearing people—so why are they being pursued to the point that some of them are attacked in the streets of the city?
There is wild, unrestrained incitement against The Rav shlit"a and his students. But these are students who sacrifice themselves every night and every day in order to reach the heart of the Old City, while coping with violence from Arabs, and afterward they sit and learn entire nights—so against whom are they inciting?I personally know people there who sacrifice themselves to the point of bleeding in order to learn Torah. There is one who, because of The Rav, left 50 million dollars to his wife in California in order to come to Eretz Yisrael and become a Breslov chassid—who else besides The Rav shlit"a can pull people out of those places, descend into the very depths of the abyss, and raise up from there the sparks of holiness?!
This is a persecution of Judaism against the savior of Judaism.
The Rebbe of Chabad said about those who plotted strife against him: “They know the truth, but they are looking for machlokes; they are worse than everyone.” They tried to persuade him to respond, but he said there is nothing to answer such wicked people who are only looking for machlokes.
If only they would invest that same drive against holy and pure servants of Hashem into bringing close the hundreds of thousands of children who do not know how to recite Krias Shema. Instead of traveling around the world and driving rabbis crazy so they will sign for you on banning the G-d-fearing Tzaddik. After all, The Rav shlit"a has cried out his entire life only about Torah studied in depth, holiness, guarding the eyes—search through all his shiurim and you will see what he speaks about. And they fight against the one who lifts lost souls from the lowest depths. And those who speak—when did they ever strengthen a single person who had fallen away? This is the Satan in its very embodiment.
Iyov suffered because he did not take a stand. True, it is forbidden for us to harm anyone, and we must accept humiliations with love—but it is impossible to be silent and sit on the side while they slaughter the G-d-fearing Tzaddik. And this is halachah: the Chofetz Chaim writes that it is forbidden to listen to lashon hara, and certainly about a Tzaddik who is known for his holiness like The Rav shlit"a. And if someone heard it by mistake, he should do teshuvah and ask Hashem to help him get out of it.
