What Did Haman Know That Led Him to Prepare a Fifty-Cubit Tree? • The Daily Lesson from Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Presented before you is a summary of the topics from the daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days) – yesterday after the Maariv (evening) prayer, Thursday night, the 2nd of Adar 5786, Parshas Terumah:

  1. Today, the 3rd of Adar, is the dedication of the Second Beis HaMikdash (Holy Temple). The Gemara (Talmud) says that they had already merited the Fiftieth Gate, and the Beis HaMikdash of fire was supposed to descend from heaven.
  2. Haman knew all of this and made a tree (gallows) fifty cubits high, in order to nullify the Fiftieth Gate that they had merited.
  3. Afterward, Mordechai hung him on the 50 to subdue his klipah (spiritual shell of impurity).
  4. Everyone should travel to Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk on the 21st of Adar (the anniversary of his passing).
  5. The women merited reaching the Fiftieth Gate – "and fifty they went up" – the women merited seeing angels.
  6. The angels took the babies from the women so that the Egyptians would not catch them.
  7. The women were not confused by the Golden Calf; they believed in Moshe and therefore merited the holiday of Rosh Chodesh (the New Month).
  8. Everyone should study Likutey Halachos (the seminal work of Reb Noson of Breslov) with his wife, specifically the Laws of Repaying the Debt of Orphans, lesson 3.
