What Did the Tribe of Benjamin Merit in the Merit of the Humiliations and Beatings? • The Daily Lesson from Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Before you is a summary of the topics from the daily lesson as delivered by our teacher, The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a – yesterday after the Maariv (evening) prayer, Monday night, the 29th of Tishrei 5785, Parshas Noach:
1. Benjamin "stole" the goblet. The brothers asked, "What do you want, money? However much a goblet costs, we will give you double... there is no need to make slaves..." But Yosef (Joseph) said, "You know the secret of the goblet, which reveals where everyone is located." Therefore, Benjamin remained a slave, and then they gave Benjamin murderous beatings. 2. The tribe of Benjamin also received beatings when they were the first to jump into the Yam Suf (Red Sea). In the merit of the bizyonos (humiliations) and the beatings, they merited receiving the Beis HaMikdash (Holy Temple). 3. Sisera's army arrived at Jerusalem; they drowned in the Kishon Stream, and this occurred during the time of Tashlich (the prayer at a body of water on Rosh Hashanah). 4. At the time when Sarah was nursing Yitzchak (Isaac), all the women brought their sons, and from those sixty-two babies, they all became kings, and each of them lived for 440 years. 5. The 18th of Sivan is the highest day of the year. On this day, the earth split open beneath the Ben Ish Chai (Rabbi Yosef Chaim of Baghdad) who remained alone, and from beneath him emerged a fountain of yeshuos (salvations) that healed everyone. 6. The Iranians were right on the verge of an atomic bomb. The Americans dropped a bomb on Hiroshima, and exactly on the yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of Rabbi Elazar the son of Rabbi Shimon, Japan surrendered. And Hitler surrendered exactly on the yahrtzeit of his father [referring to the spiritual father of the generation] on Lag BaOmer. 7. One must know the secret of the atom, and how it is possible to turn metal into gold. 8. Tonight is the yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of Shimon HaTzaddik. Afterwards, we travel to Shechem (Nablus) with the army. On Wednesday and Thursday, we will say "Ya'aleh V'Yavo" (the special prayer for the New Month). 9. Rabbi Pesach Shapiro zt"l (of blessed memory) was a true tzaddik (righteous person); in his life, he never opened his eyes [to look at the world] and never saw any woman.
