What Should a Yeshivah Bochur Do During Bein HaZmanim? — The Daily Chizuk from Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

The Daily Chizuk from The Rav, HaGa"tz Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a — “'Bereishis' — Bara Tayish”

Wednesday, 19 Av 5785 — “With dancing and niggunim we bring close all those who are far,” these are his holy words:

You can speak with secular Jews and explain to them that Hashem is in the world—to show even the most secular person Hashem. A person must show even the greatest secular Jew that Hashem exists in the world.

Rebbe Nachman says in Torah 64—“Az Yashir Moshe” (Shemos 15:1): through niggunim, we bring people back in teshuvah.

And therefore Iyov says, “My harp has turned to mourning, and my flute to the sound of those who weep” (Iyov 30:31). For the whole mistake of Noach was what is hinted in the verse, “A torch is despised in the thought of one who is at ease, prepared for those whose feet slip” (ibid. 12:5)—he would disgrace them (instead of drawing them close with niggunim and dancing); he came at them with torches.

'Bereishis' — Bara Tayish

What is “Bereishis”? “Bereishis” means: “bara tayish”—He created a goat! Just as Rebbe Nachman says that a person must know that the very first thing is dancing.

Before everything, it’s dancing. The first thing is dancing—bara tayish—just like a goat that jumps.

It is written in Iyov that the generation of the Flood—how, as soon as they were born, they began to dance. The first thing you do is dance—everyone was once Breslov. So the moment the baby was born, still connected by the cord, he was already dancing.

During Bein HaZmanim, You Learn Double

Rebbe Nachman said that during Bein HaZmanim, you learn double.

Now there will be Bein HaZmanim for a full month—learn double. There’s no pressure; the bochur is without pressure.

If he travels during seder time to Meron, Moshiach asks him whether the trip was easy… So why did you go to Meron? Look—you’re exhausted! You fall asleep during seder!

But during Bein HaZmanim, there’s no one yelling at him; during Bein HaZmanim nobody yells at him. His mother doesn’t yell—she puts down for him a slice of cake with a cup of tea, a slice of cake with a cup of coffee.

You get a cup of hot coffee and a slice of cake—sit at home, open the Gemara. Read about Yosef HaTzaddik; read about the goblet; read how Serach revealed to Yaakov that Yosef was alive.

And the Baal HaTurim says that they put Serach under a ban—it wasn’t for nothing that she revealed to Yaakov that Yosef was alive, and they put her under a ban. How could you reveal such a thing?

If you reveal that Yosef is alive, Father will kill all of us!
