Whoever Dances All Day Enters Gan Eden With His Body! • The Daily Lesson from the Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Here is the complete daily lesson as delivered by The Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, on Monday night, the eve of 2 Shevat, Parshas Bo, after Ma’ariv:

So, “In the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month” (Devarim 1:3)—today is 1 Shevat—“Moshe began to explain” (ibid. 1:5) in seventy languages, “explained it well.” “Well” (הֵיטֵב) in gematria “in a square” equals seventy: ה is five; ה י is fifteen; ה י ט is twenty-four; ה י ט ב is twenty-six—exactly seventy. The seventy languages are hinted in the word הֵיטֵב: ה, ה י, ה י ט, ה י ט ב—together, in gematria “in a square,” it comes out to seventy languages. All this is brought by the Baal HaTurim—that it refers to seventy languages.

And he managed to say it in one day—he managed to say everything… meaning, the entire Chumash, the entire Parshas Devarim, and after the next parshah—after Devarim and Va’eschanan—and after that Va’eschanan, he managed to say the entire Parshas Eikev, and Re’eh and Shoftim. Everything he said in one day in seventy languages, and then all the gates of Heaven were opened. And “ho’il” (הוֹאִיל) has the letters of Eliyahu—“ho’il,” ה ו א ל י, are the letters of Eliyahu HaNavi—because now this is a revelation of Eliyahu. Today is a revelation of Eliyahu HaNavi.

And he murdered—he was a simple murderer. There are eight hundred and fifty indictments against him, which is twenty-two thousand years of prison, and therefore he will live many years. Since he killed four hundred and fifty prophets of the Baal, and four hundred prophets of the Asherah—together eight hundred and fifty men who were innocent of any crime—he murdered them in cold blood, at Nachal Kishon. He came down from Stella Maris—from the Carmel he came down. Have you been on the Carmel? You go up, and in twenty minutes you reach the top; in a quarter of an hour we would go down below, gathering arrows and thorns there. All the girls would do Hisbodedus there. For two months we were on the Carmel constantly; there everyone would do Hisbodedus—everyone, all the children. You were in yeshivah, but you would come like that on Shabbos, so we would go up to the Carmel and do Hisbodedus there among the groves, the forests—this is the most beautiful place in the world.

And there on the Carmel is the grave of Elisha. The church “Stella Maris” is on the grave of Elisha. Elisha lived on Mount Carmel. It is also written—just now we read in the haftarah—that they sent to Mount Carmel to visit Elisha. A woman went to Elisha—the woman whose child had passed away—she ran to Elisha, and he said, “Why didn’t Hashem tell me?” Hashem always tells him. Because Hashem wanted him to see the miracle, so that everyone would see the miracle.

Because Geichazi went with the staff, with the stick. Yesterday they brought the stick; on Shabbos we revealed the staff of Elisha—they managed to obtain it. And we began reviving the dead with it; how many dead have we already revived with the staff! But Geichazi laughed. He said: What, with this staff it’s possible to revive the dead? So he put the staff on the boy, and it didn’t help. Then Elisha came—Elisha lay on him three times; three times he lay on him and breathed upon him. He performed a revival. On the spot the child got up, and he awakened seven times.

So after Eliyahu HaNavi already murdered eight hundred and fifty men—eight hundred and fifty indictments—now the Chiddushei HaRim asks: Why didn’t he kill Izevel? Why did he need to run? Rather, the Zohar says: Rabbi Chiya asked Rabbi Yosi, why did he flee? He answered: He didn’t flee—he went; he did not flee. He went to Har Sinai—forty days and forty nights—he did not eat and did not drink. The angel said to him: Eat a little more of the cake—eat just a little. What will “a little more” help? A person fasts forty days—will a little more help? Rather, Hashem wanted to remind him that you are only a human being. You… because he said: I want to be Moshe; I want “Mouth to mouth I speak with him” (Bamidbar 12:8). “What are you doing here, Eliyahu?” (Melachim I 19:9–13) I want the “mouth” of Moshe. Like Moshe—it’s impossible. Even if you fast a billion times, you cannot be Moshe. Moshe—every letter, every word, every crown-tag—there is nothing like it. How tefillin are made, how tzitzis are made.

But the question here is: Why didn’t he kill Izevel? So I saw that the Chiddushei HaRim wrote: that all day Izevel would be dancing. Whoever dances all day enters Gan Eden with his body!
