Yad Eliyahu Stadium - Erev Shavuot 5760 - A Historic Gathering with Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef zt"l and Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

On the eve of the holiday of Shavuot 5760 (June 2000), a historic gathering took place at the Yad Eliyahu Stadium in Tel Aviv, with the participation of the Torah giants of Israel - Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef zt"l, President of the Moetzet Chachmei HaTorah (Council of Torah Sages), and the holy and righteous Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, Rosh Yeshiva of "Shuvu Banim".

The Course of the Gathering

The gathering opened with introductory remarks by Rabbi David Batzri shlit"a. Upon the entrance of Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, Rabbi Eldad Shmueli shlit"a added his words, and afterwards, Rabbi Berland shlit"a delivered a Torah discourse to the thousands of participants. This included his famous declaration, "There are no wicked people in Israel!" - a call that resonated throughout all of Klal Yisrael (the Jewish people).

Afterwards, Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef zt"l entered and delivered words of Torah to the public. The climax of the gathering was the recitation of "Shema Yisrael" and the kabbalas ol malchus shamayim (acceptance of the yoke of the Kingdom of Heaven) by the entire audience together—a deeply moving and inspiring moment of unity.

Following the gathering, Rabbi Berland shlit"a delivered an additional Torah class in Bat Yam, and finally, there was a rare and deeply moving meeting between these two Torah giants.
