Once I saw someone that came to the Rav and said to the Rav that he finds it difficult to guard his eyes. The Rav said to him, ‘at least try not to search out [those sights]’.
Once there was a group of policeman at the house of the Rav. The Rav said to them, ‘each of you for the next while should guard himself against getting involved in the worst type of things’. The Rav is able to speak to everyone at their level.
Once I was at the Rav’s house for a number of days, without going out.
At that time, I had the strange feeling of judgments on the world. I looked out of the window and saw people walking in the street. This annoyed me very much – don’t you see any holiness? What are you doing in the street? I saw the world with such judgment, as if everyone was wicked.
I said to the Rav, ‘everyone is really wicked, so what will be with the world?’
The Rav said to me:
“Everyone is trying, everyone is making an effort, everyone is doing what they can, ‘Your nation Israel are all tzadikim’’.
He repeated this over and over and this took all the judgment out of my heart.
