A Lesson for the Partners of the 'Shuvu Banim' Synagogue from the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

On Monday, the night of the 3rd of Adar, Parshas Tetzaveh, an appreciation event was held for the donors of our Beis Medrash (study hall) with the participation of the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, who delivered a lesson of about fifty minutes.

Before you is a summary of the course of the lesson:

Today, the 3rd of Adar, is the time when the House [the Temple] was built, as brought in Isaiah 6. Vashti and Ahasuerus argued in whose merit the kingdom exists. The story of the fall of Belshazzar by Cyrus and Darius. Joseph asked the brothers according to what do you go—father or brother—and they thought according to eight; "and they drank" (vayishkeru)—from here we see that this was on Purim. Adam HaRishon (the first man), Cain, and Abel also held the Seder night (Passover meal). Job (Iyov) was a reincarnation of Jubal (Yuval) who used to play music for idolatry, because the letters of Yuval (Y-V-L) and Iyov (I-Y-V) are interchangeable in the Kabbalistic systems of A-L B-M. And this is why Job says, "My harp is turned to mourning, and my flute to the voice of those who weep"—I could have sweetened everything through melodies. Moses our Teacher said, "Why have You dealt ill [with this people]"—not as a complaint against Hashem, but rather that since the moment You sent me, things have become worse for the People of Israel. Moses our Teacher saw Rabbi Akiva [in a vision] and did not understand what he was saying. Cain brought an offering of flax; "Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, and Lamech seventy and sevenfold"—Lamech was a reincarnation of Saul. "Burned his dish" (a Talmudic expression regarding grounds for divorce) means that if you do not want your wife because she burned your food, then you are not worthy of her at all! In the merit of the tribe of Menashe, the Geulah (Redemption) will come. After Elijah the Prophet slaughtered four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and four hundred prophets of Asherah, and killed another one hundred and two soldiers—now the Zohar asks, how does he flee in fear from Jezebel? Rather, the Chiddushei HaRim explains that because she used to dance at weddings and clap her hands and stomp her feet, therefore the dogs did not eat the palms of her hands and the soles of her feet; because she used to dance and sing, she had a chance to do teshuvah (repentance), for a person who dances and sings merits to do teshuvah because of that.

After the conclusion of the lesson, the Rav shlit"a distributed the blessed apple, which is a segulah (spiritual remedy) for an abundance of blessing and protection, to each and every one of the donors with a radiant countenance and great love. At the end, he recited Kaddish and went back up to his home for the Maariv (evening) prayer with a large multitude, as he does every evening.
