A Lesson for the Students of the Kollel Hora'ah at the Residence of the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

On Wednesday night, the 19th of Sivan, the students (Avreichim) of the Kollel Hora'ah (institute for rabbinic law) entered for a special lesson from our teacher, the Rav, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days), in his residence. Before you is documentation and a summary of the lesson from our teacher, the Rav shlit"a:

Our teacher, the Rav shlit"a, began the lesson regarding Parshas Shelach and the matter of the letter 'Yud' from Sarah's name that was given to Yehoshua (Joshua). He spoke about the humility of Yehoshua bin Nun, who despite knowing that they were going to kill him, "cast away his intellect" (nullified his own logic) and did not think about it at all; rather, he said that if Moshe (Moses) sent him, he surely knows everything. Later in the lesson, the Rav spoke of the greatness of the leader of the generation who passed away last week, the Rosh Yeshiva, Maran the Great Gaon, Rabbi Yaakov Edelstein zt"l (of blessed memory). He also spoke about the importance of Gemara (Talmud) study, and the Rav shared about himself, how he stood with strength despite all the difficulties back then in Haifa—which was almost entirely secular—and he studied Gemara and kept the mitzvos (commandments). Continuing the lesson, the Rav spoke about the matter of having kushyos (difficult questions/doubts) about the Tzaddik, and that if one has a question, they must cry out to Hashem (God). He spoke about Eliezer (Abraham's servant) who had questions about Avraham Avinu (our forefather Abraham) who sent him, and suddenly he saw Esav (Esau) hovering over Rivka (Rebecca), and he did not understand how that could be. However, he nullified himself to Avraham, and in that merit, he saw that Yaakov (Jacob) was also there, and that Esav is only the klipah (spiritual husk) of Yaakov. He also shared a chiddush (original Torah insight): seemingly, if Eliezer moved from the category of "arur" (cursed) to "baruch" (blessed), then why didn't Avraham take Eliezer's daughter—who was righteous and grew up her whole life with Sarah—as a wife for Isaac? The answer is that specifically Eliezer himself moved from cursed to blessed, but his daughter did not, because he was the son of Nimrod, as brought in the holy books. With this matter, our teacher the Rav shlit"a concluded the lesson after more than fifty minutes of words of aish kodesh (holy fire).
