A Letter Regarding Avoiding the Dangers of Technology Signed by Rabbi Berland shlit"a

During the month of Adar II 5779 (2019), a letter was published signed by our teacher, the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days), regarding the vital need to guard oneself against all the spiritual damages of the times and breached (unfiltered) communication. Even before signing, the Rav shlit"a spoke extensively about the obligation to distance oneself from any such obstacle and how much it disturbs and delays the ascent of prayer and the descent of shefa (divine abundance). We present before you the text of the letter signed by our teacher, Rabbi Berland shlit"a.

"There is great importance in awakening the public regarding their purity and the purity of their homes from the damages of technology.

As is known, all the great leaders of Israel have established that it is an obligation to be meticulous in holding only a phone approved by the Rabbinical Committee for Communication Matters. It is forbidden to break the fence by holding a 'kosher-supported' device (a modified non-kosher phone), and it goes without saying

that one must not, Heaven forbid, hold a smartphone, even if it is protected and filtered, for it is a great and immense danger to the entire home.

And all those who listen to the enactment of the great leaders of Israel and guard themselves from this grave matter, even in a situation of financial loss, shall be blessed with nachas (spiritual joy) from all their descendants."
