A Prayer to Merit Making Teshuvah and Regret from the Depth of the Heart, and that the Verses "When Will You Come to Me, I Will Walk..." Should be Fulfilled in Me
A Prayer for the Fifth Week of Shovavim
Master of the Universe, the Omnipotent One, now this week the verses are being fulfilled in me: "She crushed his head, and she smashed and pierced his temple" (Judges 5:26). For even the transgressors of Israel are full of mitzvos like a pomegranate. And then the verse in Psalm 101 will be fulfilled: "I will ponder the way of the perfect; when will You come to me? I will walk with a perfect heart within my house. I will not set before my eyes any base thing; I hate the doing of things that fall away; it shall not cleave to me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know no evil. He who secretly slanders his neighbor, him will I destroy; he of haughty looks and a proud heart, him will I not endure. My eyes are upon the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in a perfect way, he shall minister to me. He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he who speaks lies shall not be established before my eyes. Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, to cut off all the workers of iniquity from the city of Hashem." And in Psalm 102: "For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned like a hearth. My heart is smitten like grass and withered, for I forget to eat my bread. By reason of the voice of my sighing, my bones cleave to my flesh. I am like a pelican of the wilderness; I am become like an owl of the waste places. I watch, and am become like a sparrow that is alone upon the roof. My enemies taunt me all the day; those who are mad against me swear by me. For I have eaten ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping." And in the merit of my tears and my teshuvah (repentance) that I will do in the fifth week of Shovavim (the period of weeks dedicated to repentance), may I merit that my teshuvah be accepted completely. May You forgive and pardon all my sins, iniquities, and transgressions. I will confess my transgressions to Hashem, whether committed in speech, in action, or in thought. May You pardon and forgive all my evil and perverse thoughts. For I am left "like a mast on the mountaintop, like a banner on a hill" (Isaiah 30:17), and You have lifted me up and cast me into the heart of the seas, and a stormy wind is my portion. And in the merit of the teshuvah that I am doing now, may no evil speech ever leave my mouth, Heaven forbid, from now until eternity. May no false oath, no lie, and no curse ever leave my mouth. Rather, may I always speak gently and with complete peace of mind forever. May I not become overly agitated, and may I never tear my soul in my anger. Rather, may I always remain in true peace of mind, from now until eternity. For the success of the Rav and the Rebbetzin shlit"a, and for the elevation of the soul of Ilana bas Yitzchak z"l, may her soul be bound in the bond of life.
