Prayer: The Conversation of Holy Seraphim
Words of the Tzaddik
Parshas Emor – 5779
A: Every day, a person faces the test of the "Mekalel" (the Blasphemer) and the aspect of the "Mekoshesh" (the Wood-gatherer). The test of the Mekalel is that Hashem tests him in his emunah (faith) in Hashem and in the tzaddikim. This test is to avoid being strict or angry, and to remember the secret that the descent is the very purpose of the ascent, in the aspect of "the upper ones below and the lower ones above." Elisha ben Avuya fell because he did not adopt this secret. If the Mekoshesh had walked with this understanding—that the descent is for the sake of the ascent—he would have reached the spiritual level of Moshe Rabbeinu. The aspect of the Mekoshesh represents the daily spiritual work to "gather" yet another mitzvah and yet another good point.
B: I am among the unique individuals of the generations who writes Torah and prayer together, in the aspect of ratzo v'shov (spiritual running and returning).
C: Every prayer of mine that goes out into the world nullifies an atomic bomb.
D: The moment my prayers reach every single Jew in the world, at that exact moment the Geulah (Redemption) will arrive.
E: The Rav noted regarding prayer 5026: Even if a person is chased away so that he cannot reach prayer, or a Litvish yeshiva student who traveled to Uman, or for any other reason—everything is an aspect of a descent for the sake of an ascent. A person is only tested so that he can ascend to higher and higher spiritual levels.
F: The Rav noted regarding prayer 5028 about Noa, who flies in the wind and moves (n'ah) from place to place: This is the aspect of the tzaddikim who do not rest for a single moment, ascending the spiritual steps infinitely. Thus, their entire lives they ascend higher and higher. If a person falls, he can fall completely, literally. Therefore, it is better to place the ladder at an angle so that there will be a grip. This way, if he falls, Heaven forbid, he will only fall two steps and will immediately have something to hold onto. One should ascend only one step at a time, and not two or more steps at once. As Rebbe Nachman said, one should take a single character trait and work on it to the very end until it is rectified completely.
