A Prayer to Merit Nullifying the Impurity of the Eight Sheratzim, to Fast on Mondays and Thursdays, and to Return All the Sparks
A Prayer for the Days of Shovavim Tat (the winter weeks of repentance)
Master of the Universe, the Almighty, from whom no purpose can be withheld, "Go forth and gaze, O daughters of Zion, upon King Solomon, upon the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his wedding, and on the day of the gladness of his heart." "On the day of his wedding" – this is the Giving of the Torah; "and on the day of the gladness of his heart" – this is the dedication of the Holy Temple. Please, Hashem, grant me the merit during the days of Shovavim Tat, which are eight weeks that nullify and eradicate the impurity of the eight sheratzim (creeping animals). Through the eight days of Chanukah, we merit to nullify their terrible impurity, and therefore we must fast during all these eight weeks, on Monday and Thursday. Please, Hashem, grant me the merit to fast during the days of Shovavim, and whoever adds [more fasts] is increasingly praiseworthy. Please, Hashem, grant me the merit to fast during the days of Shovavim, on Thursdays and Mondays, and in the merit of this, may I merit to rectify all the nitzotzot (holy sparks) that were lost from me through forbidden touches and sinful thoughts. And may we merit to see the coming of Mashiach ben David, and to see the Holy Temple of fire descending from Heaven.
For the elevation of the soul of Yehuda ben Yimna, who passed away on the 22nd of Teves. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
