A Prayer to Merit Revealing King David, Who is Spiritually Invested in All the Tzaddikim of Every Generation, and Who is the Pillar
"A Ma'amar (Chassidic Discourse) for Rosh Chodesh Av"
The destruction itself is the revival and the building. This is like the story of the cow that mooed twice. The first moo indicated destruction, for it was apparently a moo of sadness. The second moo, which followed immediately after, was apparently a moo of encouragement and joy. It indicated the birth of Mashiach ben David, Menachem ben Amiel, who was born in Bethlehem, the city where King David, peace be upon him, was born. He appears to us in every moment and second, just as the soul of David became spiritually invested (ibbur) in the soul of Yael at the moment she pierced Sisera: "She smashed his head, crashed and pierced his temple" (Judges 5:26). For the gematria (numerical value) of "Minashim (440) ba'ohel (38) tevorach (622)" [Blessed shall she be above women in the tent] equals 1110. This is the exact gematria of David (14) and Sarah (505), Rivkah (307), Rachel (238), and Leah (36), which equals 1110. This is because the soul of David is spiritually invested in all the tzaddikim of the generation, in every single generation. As the Gemara in Sukkah (52b) states regarding the verse, "And this shall be peace: when Assyria shall come into our land, and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight princes among men" (Micah 5:4). Who are these seven shepherds? David is in the middle; Adam, Seth, and Methuselah are on the right; Abraham, Jacob, and Moses are on the left. We see from this teaching that David is always in the middle, and David always stands at the head of all the tzaddikim, and at the head of the seven shepherds. Therefore, Yael merited that when she went out to battle with Sisera, "She put her hand to the tent peg, and her right hand to the workmen's hammer," and "From heaven fought the stars, from their courses they fought against Sisera." Devorah and Yael succeeded in drawing down the stars—stars of fire—in their war with Sisera. Devorah, the wife of Lapidos (literally "torches"), had sparks of fire bursting forth from her when she would prophesy. All of this was through the power of the soul of King David, peace be upon him, which was spiritually invested in Yael and Devorah. For in truth, there is no destruction at all. As it is stated, "And it was (v'haya) when Jerusalem was captured" (Jeremiah 38:28). The word "v'haya" denotes joy. This was the true joy: when Jerusalem was captured, all the sins, transgressions, and spiritual blemishes were burned away and nullified. As it is stated, "Your iniquity is expiated, O daughter of Zion; He will no longer exile you. He will punish your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He will uncover your sins" (Lamentations 4:22). Because the soul of King David, peace be upon him, is the very pillar of fire that went before the Children of Israel when they left Egypt (Zohar, Beshalach 42b). David continues to be the pillar of fire that goes before the Children of Israel "yomam" (by day - 96) and "lailah" (by night - 81), which equals 177. Through this, he will lead us straight to "Gan" (Garden - 53) "Eden" (124), which equals 177. For all the tzaddikim accompany us day (96) and night (81) = 177, and despite the destruction, they are with us. As the Zohar (Pekudei 240) states, not a single stone from the stones of the Holy Temple, nor from the stones of Jerusalem, was burned, smashed, or blemished, Heaven forbid. As it is stated, "Behold, I will set your stones in fair colors, and lay your foundations with sapphires. And I will make your windows of rubies, and your gates of carbuncles, and all your borders of precious stones" (Isaiah 54:11-12). The "kadkod" (rubies/carbuncles) stones are shoham (onyx) and yashfeh (jasper), from which the walls of Jerusalem will be built. Whoever places "puch" (antimony/eye-paint) on their eyes can see the entire Holy Temple built and standing on its foundation. No stone was burned, smashed, or blemished; rather, everything stands on its foundation, just as it was in the time when King Solomon built the Holy Temple and Jerusalem.
