The Works of the Chatzot Kollel ○ A Summary of the Lesson at the Home of our Teacher Rav Berland shlit"a
Every midnight in Bnei Brak, a 'Chatzot Kollel' (midnight study group) takes place at the "Torah V'Chaim" Beit Midrash, under the leadership of the elder of the Council of Torah Sages, the great Gaon Rabbi Shimon Baadani shlit"a.
Every Wednesday, the holy group who merit to study at midnight gathers to hear a lesson in Kabbalah and the hidden Torah from Rabbi Shlomo Elmalich shlit"a, one of the students of our teacher Rav Berland shlit"a.
Those avreichim (young married scholars) merited to enter the lesson in the inner sanctum last night, the eve of Rosh Chodesh - 1st of Sivan. In the lesson, our teacher the Rav shlit"a spoke on the Aggadah from the chapters of the Tanach in the Book of II Kings, and introduced several new insights regarding the prophet Elijah, Ahab, and Jezebel. Afterwards, our teacher the Rav spoke of the miracles that Hashem performed for Sisera in the merit of Deborah the Prophetess. Following this, he spoke from the Gemara in Tractate Sanhedrin, page 93, regarding the story of Ahab ben Koliah and Zedekiah ben Maaseiah, whom Nebuchadnezzar roasted like parched corn. Finally, he spoke of how the angels from the Heavenly Chariot accompany a person in all his ways. Before you is a short excerpt from the lesson:
"A person sets out on a journey, he arrives from Ashdod, then three hundred thousand myriads of angels accompany him. How does he not have an accident? [Because] three hundred thousand myriads of angels follow this, and in return, three hundred and fifty myriads of eagles—angels in the form of eagles—accompany him. Three hundred thousand and fifty myriads of eagles guard him with every guard; no accident can happen to him. A person travels to Jerusalem, travels to Ashdod..."
At the conclusion, after more than fifty minutes, our teacher Rav Berland shlit"a strengthened the avreichim on several additional topics and ended the lesson with Kaddish and melodies. The strengthened participants then went out for the Maariv prayer together with our teacher Rav Berland shlit"a, as on every evening in the courtyard of the prayer hall.
