Last Night’s Lesson of Rabbi Berland shlit"a After Ma’ariv

Before you is the lesson that The Rav, Rabbi Berland shlit"a, delivered last night—on the night of Rosh Chodesh, 1 Sivan—after counting the Omer:

Now Shavuos is drawing near—within two days it will be Shavuos, the Giving of the Torah. At that time, Hashem first called to the women. It is written in Midrash Tehillim, the Midrash Shocher Tov, chapter 8, that He called the women first—one day earlier. He asked whether you want to receive the Torah. Because if the woman does not agree, then it is impossible to receive the Torah. The first thing Hashem did was call the women, because women educate the children, guarding that he will grow up to be a good child.

So the first thing Hashem did was call the women, because they are the foundation of the home. The woman determines what the child’s destiny will be: ninety percent he receives from the mother—ninety percent he receives from the mother—and ten percent from the father. That is why he is nine months within the mother’s body. And then she still needs to nurse—her mind, her milk. Because a child develops only from mother’s milk! Not from formula, not from anything else! That is only to fill up his stomach; the brain grows only from mother’s milk!

The lesson begins at 38:58

Therefore Hashem asked the women first. The women needed to give their agreement to receive the Torah—and then it is possible to receive the Torah.
