Amazing: Exorcism of a Spirit by the Esteemed Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Dealing with souls is reserved for the very few, for tzaddikim of the highest level, the great ones of the generations who are detached from any contact or connection to the evil in our world. It is enough to read a little from the book Ruachot Mesaprot (Speaking Spirits) from the book "Minchat Yehuda" by the Mekubal Rabbi Yehuda Moshe Yeshua Patiya zt"l, to understand how dangerous it is even for tzaddikim to enter into work with spirits, all the more so when it concerns evil spirits, those that remained here for reasons that are mostly not good.
Many stories have been published about the great tzaddik, Rav Eliezer Berland shlit"a, related to bringing down souls, removing dybbukim, and the like. On our website, we have also published more than once hair-raising stories of this kind, stories that if they were not repeated in countless testimonies, would be considered by the world as taken from the realms of imagination.
"I was a witness to this terrible story from its beginning to its end." Another story has reached us that was recently revealed and is directly related to Rav Berland shlit"a. We bring it before you from a first-hand account.
Connecting with a Jew with a high soul
"At the end of the winter of 5778, I was invited to a memorial service in the Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood in Jerusalem by Shmulik Gabai, the manager of a security company in Jerusalem. It was a memorial for the grandfather of one of the employees at the security company named Lidor. I arrived at their home and saw people who were seemingly far from Torah and mitzvot. While saying words of Torah, my eyes met a young man who was looking at me with interest. This young man, who seemed far from any religious signs, with several earrings and a tattoo on one of his hands, approached me after the memorial and thanked me for coming. I felt that this young man had great potential and I even told him so."
"In conversation with him, it turned out that his name was Assi M., a women's hairdresser and one of the more famous Jerusalem figures. He continued and told me that he had been working in the Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood for over four years and occasionally sings at events. We exchanged phone numbers and since then we have met several times, mainly traveling together to the Western Wall and the tomb of Samuel the Prophet."
A family member begins to speak delusional words
"Towards the end of the month of Tammuz, I received an urgent call from Assi in which he told me about one of his relatives, a completely normal girl, who suddenly began to speak delusional words that were not characteristic of her. In addition, the family was worried that she had stopped eating and drinking. From the things Assi described, it was clear that it was a dybbuk, since there is no reality in which such speech is related to her. After all, this is a girl who has no connection to religion, and the sentences she spoke were about the World to Come and Hashem."
"It is important to note that she spoke in her own voice, but inside her had entered a spirit that controlled and terrorized her. Her fear of the spirit was terrible and awful, and Assi asked me what to do with her. I told him that not everyone can deal with things of this kind and that Rav Eliezer Berland could surely help with this. It turned out that they had never heard of Rav Berland in particular or of other rabbis, and had not shown any interest in Judaism until now."
Arriving at a well-known rabbi to treat the girl
"The story about the dybbuk became known in the family, and one of the relatives recommended a certain rabbi as someone who could help. They contacted him, and he said that in the coming days he would arrive at their home. The family waited impatiently for his arrival; the days passed in indescribable suffering, as the entire house stopped functioning."
"After a few days, that rabbi arrived and tried to do something with the dybbuk, but nothing changed. In their distress, they tried to reach Rav Berland, but on that day the Rav was giving a public lecture. At a loss, they returned to me in the morning hours and asked me what to do, while mentioning the name of someone they had heard could help. Again, I emphasized that not everyone can deal with such problems and that it would be very worthwhile to reach Rav Berland, but they wanted immediate help."
A famous Mekubal rabbi tries to treat the dybbuk
"I told them the name of an important rabbi, one of the most famous Mekubalim of our generation, who is known to deal with such things. They made every effort and arrived at his yeshiva with the girl. The Mekubal rabbi immediately identified that it was a dybbuk and began a tikkun with shofars to remove the dybbuk, while shouting at it, 'Get out of her.' He repeated this several times while hitting his hand on the bimah."
Trying hospitalization
"After the tikkun was finished, they went to their home, and although she calmed down a little that day, the very next day everything returned. Apparently, the spirit inside her hid that day because of the tikkun. During those days, besides the fact that the whole family barely slept due to their worry for the girl, she also lost weight in a worrying way. They decided to seek medical help at the hospital, hospitalized her for the Sabbath, but even there her condition did not improve at all. After all, it is known and famous that medicine has no ability to deal with things of this kind."
Finally reaching Rav Berland shlit"a
"On Sunday there were again no public audiences with Rav Berland shlit"a, but on Monday we were privileged to enter the inner sanctum, Assi, Lidor, and I. I told Rav Berland about what had happened to the girl suddenly and continued to describe the previous attempts to remove the dybbuk. The Rav immediately said, 'I will remove the dybbuk, come tomorrow on Tuesday with a pidyon (redemption money)'."
"The next day we arrived with a pidyon; the Rav said he needed to change her name and come to their home three times in order to remove the dybbuk from her. Assi asked in a broken voice, 'Rav, will you really remove it from her?' The Rav answered immediately, 'I swear that I will remove it from her'!! 'I will arrive at your place around five o'clock in the morning after I return to Jerusalem.'"
"As is known, Rav Berland gives lectures and home gatherings every night all over the country. The Rav leaves immediately after the evening prayer and finishes around five o'clock, after which they begin to pray Shacharit with the public with songs and melodies, when the Rav looks as if he just woke up from a good night's sleep."
Rav Berland arrives at their home and the change in her condition begins immediately
"The Rav gave Assi an amulet to place on the girl without her knowledge and arrived to visit them on Wednesday at five o'clock; he entered their home only with his closest gabbaim. The family members were amazed by the sight of the majesty and holiness of the Rav, with their last hope lingering in their hearts. The Rav sat down and began reading from Likutey Moharan, Part I, Lesson 74, about Dina D'Mesavuta (the judgment of impurity). The meaning of this is that there is a judgment of a spirit of impurity, which our Rebbe elaborates on and explains how to turn it into a holy judgment."
"The Rav asked for a glass of water, blessed it, drank a little, poured it on his clothes, and asked them to give it to the girl to drink, but she refused. The Rav began to breathe deeply and his face was like a flame of fire, then the girl agreed to drink. The Rav stayed in their home for about half an hour, all the while telling a story and reading from Likutey Moharan. Already the next day, the family informed us that a significant improvement had begun in her condition and she said, 'I feel that this Rav is bringing me back to life. This is not a rabbi, this is an angel that Hashem sent to bring me back to myself.'"
Against all odds, Rav Berland performs miracles
The next day, Rav Berland arrived again around five o'clock in the morning, again told a story, and stayed for about half an hour. Baruch Hashem, the girl began to eat and drink a little and further improvement occurred in her condition. She said, 'I feel that every time this Rav arrives, he brings me back to life.'"
"Another day passed and again, the Rav arrived for the third time. It was Friday early in the morning, the Rav spoke words of Torah, and after he finished, the girl said, 'I feel that he brought me back to life.' Rav Berland arrived two more times at their home to strengthen the family in keeping mitzvot, even though by the third time, the girl's condition had completely returned to normal."
The Rav continues to come and return the family to their source
"The fourth time, one of the family members approached the Rav, someone who had been trying for over eight months to sell his house without success, and asked him to find a buyer. The Rav said to him, 'Tomorrow I will send you a buyer, make a contract with him.' The next day a buyer arrived and they made a contract."
"It is important to note that Lidor, Assi's cousin, was present at all four of the Rav's visits and as a result was strengthened and took upon himself the keeping of the Sabbath, a kippah, and tzitzit. Together with him, several other family members took upon themselves the keeping of the Sabbath and other mitzvot. Assi registered for the trip to Uman after the Rav told him to."
"Towards the month of Elul, I traveled to the Rav's lecture in Givat Olga together with Assi and Lidor in order to ask the Rav about issues related to their teshuvah. The Rav said to them, 'I have two last places on the train and I am giving them to you.'"
"I spoke with Rav Berland shlit"a about the dybbuk, and the Rav addressed it in the lecture in Givat Olga. He said that he has a secret scroll of one of the greatest tzaddikim of the last generations, and there, a holy name is written by which it is possible to remove dybbukim."
Without holy names, through Likutey Moharan I removed the dybbuk
"On Thursday evening, the 13th of Elul, a thanksgiving meal was held with the family with the participation of Rav Berland shlit"a. For an hour and a half, everyone sang and chanted in gratitude to Hashem for all the good and the miracles He bestowed upon us. During the meal, the Rav was asked about the removal of the dybbuk and said that by saying the Torah from Likutey Moharan, he removed the dybbuk."
The story of the strengthening of all the family members is only the beginning of a great and strong light of teshuvah; with Hashem's help, there is still more vision for the future.
