Amazing: Exorcism of a Spirit by the Esteemed Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Dealing with souls is reserved for a select few, exalted tzaddikim, the greats of the generations who are detached from any touch or connection to the evil in our world. It is enough to read a little in the book "Spirits Speak" from the book "Minchat Yehuda" by the kabbalist Rabbi Yehuda Moshe Yeshua Pataya zt"l zy"a, to understand how dangerous it is even for tzaddikim to engage with spirits, all the more so when it comes to evil spirits, those that remain here for reasons that are often not good.

Many stories have been published about the esteemed Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a related to soul descents, exorcisms, and the like. On our site, we have published more than once hair-raising stories like these, stories that if they had not been repeated in countless testimonies, would be considered by the world as belonging to the realm of imagination.

"I was a witness to this terrible story from beginning to end." A new story has reached us that was recently revealed and is directly related to Rav Berland shlit"a. We bring it to you from a firsthand testimony.

Connecting with a Jew with a High Neshamah

"At the end of the winter of 5778, I was invited to a memorial in the Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood in Jerusalem, by Shmuel Gabai, the manager of a security company in Jerusalem. It was a memorial for the grandfather of one of the employees of the security company named Lidor. I arrived at their home and saw people who seemed distant from Torah and mitzvot. During the words of Torah, my eyes met a young man who looked at me with interest. This young man, who seemed far from any religious sign, with several earrings and a tattoo on one of his arms, approached me after the memorial and thanked me for coming. I felt that this young man had great potential and even told him so."

"In conversation with him, I learned that his name is Assi M., a women's hairdresser and one of the more famous Jerusalem figures. He continued to tell me that he has been working in the Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood for over four years and occasionally sings at events. We exchanged phone numbers and since then met several times, mainly traveling together to the Kotel and the Tomb of Samuel the Prophet."

A Family Member Starts Speaking Strange Words

"Towards the end of the month of Tammuz, I received an urgent call from Assi where he told me about one of his relatives, a completely normative girl, who suddenly began speaking strange words that were not typical of her. Additionally, the family was worried because she stopped eating and drinking. From the things Assi described, it was clear that it was a dybbuk, as there is no reality that such words are connected to her. After all, it is a girl who has no connection to religion and the sentences she spoke were about the World to Come and Hashem."

"It is important to note that she spoke in her voice, but inside her entered a spirit that controlled and threatened her. Her fear of the spirit was terrible and Assi asked me what to do with her. I told him that in matters like this not everyone can handle it and that Rabbi Eliezer Berland can surely help with this. It turned out they had never heard of Rabbi Berland in particular or other rabbis, and in general, had not shown interest in Judaism until now."

They Go to a Known Rabbi to Treat the Girl

"The story about the dybbuk spread in the family and one of the relatives recommended a certain rabbi as someone who could help. They contacted him and he said he would come to their home in the coming days. The family waited anxiously for his arrival, the days passed in indescribable suffering, as the entire household ceased to function."

"After several days, that rabbi arrived and tried to do something with the dybbuk, but nothing changed. In their distress, they tried to reach Rabbi Berland, but on that day the rabbi was giving a lesson to many. Desperate, they returned to me in the morning hours and asked me what to do while mentioning the name of someone they heard could help. Again, I emphasized that in such problems not everyone can handle it and it is very worthwhile to reach Rabbi Berland, but they wanted immediate help."

A Famous Kabbalist Tries to Treat the Dybbuk

"I told them the name of an important rabbi, one of the great famous kabbalists of our generation known for dealing with such matters. They made every effort and reached his yeshiva with the girl. The kabbalist rabbi immediately identified it as a dybbuk and began a tikkun with shofars to expel the dybbuk, shouting at it, 'Get out of her.' He repeated this several times while hitting his hand on the bimah."

Trying Hospitalization

"After the tikkun was completed, they went home, and indeed that day she calmed down a bit, but the next day everything returned to her. Apparently, the spirit within her hid that day because of the tikkun. During these days, besides the fact that the whole family hardly slept due to worry for the girl, she also lost weight in a worrying manner. They decided to seek medical help at the hospital, hospitalized her for Shabbat, but even there her condition did not improve at all. It is well known and famous that medicine has no ability to deal with such things."

Finally Reaching Rabbi Berland shlit"a

"On Sunday there was again no reception with Rabbi Berland shlit"a, but on Monday we were privileged to enter the holy presence, Assi, Lidor, and I. I told Rabbi Berland about what happened to the girl suddenly and added to describe the previous attempts to expel the dybbuk. The rabbi immediately said, 'I will expel the dybbuk, come tomorrow on Tuesday with a pidyon'."

"The next day we came with a pidyon, the rabbi said he needed to change her name and come to their home three times to expel the dybbuk from her. Assi asked in a broken voice, 'Rabbi, will you really expel it from her?' The rabbi immediately answered, 'I swear I will expel it from her'!! 'I will come to you around five in the morning after I return to Jerusalem.'"

"As is known, Rabbi Berland gives lessons and home gatherings throughout the country every night. The rabbi leaves immediately after the evening prayer and finishes around five, after which they begin to pray Shacharit with the public with songs and melodies, as the rabbi appears as if he has risen from a good night's sleep."

Rabbi Berland Arrives at Their Home and Immediately Her Condition Changes

"The rabbi gave Assi an amulet to place on the girl without her knowledge and arrived to visit them on Wednesday at five, entering their home only with the close gabbaim. The family was amazed by the sight of the rabbi's majesty and kedushah, as the last hope lingered in their hearts. The rabbi sat down and began reading from Likutei Moharan Part One, Siman 74 about Dina D'Mesavusa. This means there is a judgment of an impure spirit that Rebbe Nachman elaborates and explains how to transform it into a holy judgment."

"The rabbi asked for a cup of water, blessed, drank a little, poured on his clothes, and asked them to give the girl to drink, but she refused. The rabbi began to breathe deeply, his face aflame, then the girl agreed to drink. The rabbi stayed in their home for about half an hour, all the while telling a story and reading from Likutei Moharan. Already the next day, the family informed us that there was a significant improvement in her condition and she said, 'I feel that this rabbi is bringing me back to life. This is not a rabbi, this is an angel that Hashem sent to bring me back to myself'."

Against All Odds, Rabbi Berland Performs Miracles

The next day Rabbi Berland arrived again around five in the morning, again told a story and stayed for about half an hour. Baruch Hashem, the girl began to eat and drink a little and there was further improvement in her condition. She said, 'I feel that every time this rabbi comes, he brings me back to life'."

"Another day passed and again, the rabbi arrived for the third time. It was on Friday before dawn, the rabbi spoke words of Torah and after he finished, the girl said, 'I feel he brought me back to life'. Rabbi Berland came twice more to their home to strengthen the family in observing mitzvot, even though by the third time the girl's condition had completely returned to normal."

The Rabbi Continues to Come and Bring the Family Back to Their Roots

"On the fourth visit, one of the family members came to the rabbi, someone who had been trying for over eight months to sell his house without success and asked for help to find a buyer. The rabbi told him, 'Tomorrow I will send you a buyer, make a contract with him.' The next day a buyer came and they made a contract."

"It is important to note that Lidor, Assi's cousin, was present at all four of the rabbi's visits and as a result, he strengthened and took upon himself the observance of Shabbat, wearing a kippah and tzitzit. Along with him, a few other family members took upon themselves the observance of Shabbat and additional mitzvot. Assi registered for a trip to Uman after the rabbi told him."

"Towards the month of Elul, I traveled to a lesson of the rabbi in Givat Olga together with Assi and Lidor to ask the rabbi about matters related to their return to teshuvah. The rabbi told them, 'I have two last seats on the train and I am giving them to you.'"

"I spoke with Rabbi Berland shlit"a about the dybbuk and the rabbi addressed it in a lesson in Givat Olga. He said he has a scroll of secrets from one of the great tzaddikim of recent generations and there is a holy name written there by which dybbuks can be expelled."

Without Holy Names, Through Likutei Moharan I Expelled the Dybbuk

"On Thursday evening, the 13th of Elul, a thanksgiving meal was held with the family in the presence of Rabbi Berland shlit"a. For an hour and a half, everyone sang and praised Hashem for all the goodness and miracles He bestowed upon us. During the meal, the rabbi was asked about the expulsion of the dybbuk and said that through the recitation of the Torah from Likutei Moharan, he expelled the dybbuk."

The story of the strengthening of the entire family is just the beginning of a great and strong light of teshuvah, with Hashem's help, there is still more to come.
