On the day of Ginusia DeMalka (the birthday of the King/Tzaddik) – this past Thursday, the 23rd of Tevet – the day on which the soul of the Tzaddik of the generation, the Rav Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, descended into the world, the rabbis of the community gathered together with the participation of the Rav Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a for the ceremony of writing a Torah scroll for the salvation and success of the People of Israel, in memory of those murdered in the Simchat Torah war, and for the return of the hostages very soon. The Rav shlit"a entered the ceremony to the singing of "For length of days and years of life shall be added to you..." and began writing the first letters of the Torah scroll: "In the beginning, G-d created the heavens and the earth." Afterward, he held a L'chaim ceremony and recited the blessing over the wine. He then began delivering a fiery Torah lesson in which he spoke extensively about the greatness of writing a Torah scroll. After the lesson, which lasted about an hour, the Rav shlit"a recited Kaddish (prayer for the deceased) and returned to his holy residence to the singing of "May You add days to the days of the King..."
