The Daily Lesson from our Teacher, the Tzaddik Rav Eliezer Berland shlit"a – The Geulah in the Merit of the Daughters of Tzelofchad
Tuesday, 13 Tammuz 5782, Lesson delivered after the Maariv prayer – No woman committed any sin
The Parashah deals with the daughters of Tzelofchad, five daughters: Machlah, Choglah, Noa, Milcah, and Tirzah.
Tirzah, who only desires Hashem; Milcah, who reigns over all the limbs; and Noa, who is always in motion. Even though Noa was last in number, she became second in number, and Milcah became last.
The entire Geulah is in the merit of the daughters of Tzelofchad, who said, "Give us a possession." They did not concede to Moshe! They came before Moshe, the elders, and Aharon the Kohen. One does not understand; it is written Moshe, after that Aharon, and then the elders—the reverse! First the elders, after that Aharon, and after that Moshe (an ascending order). Rather, everything is in the merit of the daughters of Tzelofchad.
Therefore, Rashi says that no woman committed any sin, not in the sin of the Golden Calf, not in the sin of the spies. "There was no man," therefore the men sinned and they died. The women tore their ears (during the sin of the Golden Calf), they took their earrings and nose rings along with their ears!
Therefore, a woman is forbidden to leave her house on Rosh Chodesh. They received Rosh Chodesh; they received the 12 Rosh Chodashim only to recite Tehillim. Rosh Chodesh is only for reciting Tehillim, and it is forbidden to leave her house except for something urgent.
And therefore, in the merit that they did not sin, the entire Geulah is in the merit of righteous women. However, they remained widows because they did not protest against their husbands; they did not go against their husbands. For when a husband argues with the tzaddik, she must go against him, like the wife of On ben Pelet, who did not let him leave the house. She said, "You are arguing with the tzaddik? Drink wine, Hungarian wine (Tokaji wine)." Everyone needs to drink Hungarian wine tonight (Rebbe Nachman said, "I am Hungarian wine"). And with Hashem's help, in the merit of the faith in the tzaddik, we will merit the complete Geulah speedily in our days, Amen.
