By the Merit of Not Sinning—The Geulah Comes by the Merit of Righteous Women | The Daily Lesson from the Holy Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

The daily lesson from The Rav, the holy Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a — The Geulah by the merit of the daughters of Tzelofchad

Tuesday, 13 Tammuz 5782, a lesson delivered after Ma’ariv — No woman sinned in any sin

The parashah deals with the daughters of Tzelofchad—five daughters: Machlah, Choglah, No’ah, Milkah, Tirtzah.

Tirtzah—who wants only Hashem; Milkah—who “rules” over all the limbs; and No’ah—who is always in motion. Even though No’ah was last in the count, she became second, and Milkah became last.

All the Geulah is by the merit of the daughters of Tzelofchad, who said, “Give us an inheritance.” They did not give in—even to Moshe! They came before Moshe, and the elders, and Aharon the Kohen. It is not understood: the verse writes Moshe, after that Aharon, and then the elders—reversed! First the elders, after that Aharon, after that Moshe (an ascending order). Rather, it is all by the merit of the daughters of Tzelofchad.

Therefore Rashi says that no woman sinned in any sin—not in the sin of the Golden Calf and not in the sin of the spies. “There was no man”—therefore the men sinned and they died. The women tore their ears for themselves (in the sin of the Golden Calf): they took the earrings and the nose-rings together with the ears!

Therefore a woman is not permitted to go out of her home on Rosh Chodesh. She received Rosh Chodesh: they received twelve Roshei Chodashim, only to say Tehillim. Rosh Chodesh is only for saying Tehillim, and it is forbidden to go out of her home—only for something urgent.

And therefore, by the merit of not sinning, the entire Geulah comes by the merit of righteous women. But they remained widows, because they did not protest their husbands; they did not go against their husbands. For when the husband argues with the Tzaddik, she must go against him—like the wife of On ben Pelet, who did not let him leave the house. She said: You are arguing with the Tzaddik—drink wine, Tokaji Hungarian wine (Hungarian wine). Everyone needs to drink Hungarian wine tonight (Rebbe Nachman said: “I am Hungarian wine”). And with Hashem’s help, by the merit of Emunah in the Tzaddik, we will merit the complete Geulah speedily in our days, amen.
