The community of Anash (fellow Chassidim) and followers are called to gather for a rally of prayer and crying out at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, on Wednesday, 6 Elul 5786 (August 19), at 19:30. The gathering will be held with the participation of Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, and its purpose is one: to tear open the gates of Heaven for the arrival of the Rav shlit"a at the Tziyon (gravesite) of the holy Rebbe Nachman in Uman for the approaching Rosh Hashanah. At the conclusion of the gathering, the Maariv (evening) prayer will take place with the Rav shlit"a.

"To Tear Open the Gates of Heaven" — For the Journey to Uman for Rosh Hashanah

The headline on the announcement leaves no room for doubt: A gathering of prayer and crying out, to tear open the gates of Heaven, for the arrival of the Rav shlit"a in Uman for the approaching Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah 5787 will begin in about three weeks, on Friday night (September 11 in the evening), and every prayer recited now is said for the short time that remains.

Traveling to the Tziyon (gravesite) of the holy Rebbe Nachman of Breslov zy"a on Rosh Hashanah is the fundamental foundation of Breslov Chassidus, and the Rav shlit"a has frequently awakened us to this over the years — see The Secret of the Journey to Uman: The Power of Will and Nullification to the Tzaddik. Anash are accustomed to reciting during these days the prayer that the Rav shlit"a will merit to reach Uman for Rosh Hashanah, and the gathering in Hebron is a direct continuation of that request — this time in public, and in the place from which the prayer of the Patriarchs ascended.

Why Specifically the Cave of the Patriarchs, and Why Specifically in Elul?

The Cave of the Patriarchs is the burial place of Avraham and Sarah, Yitzchak and Rivka, and Yaakov and Leah — the gate of prayer for the Jewish people since time immemorial. Anash are accustomed to ascending to Hebron during the days of mercy and Selichos (penitential prayers) of the month of Elul, and to cry out there for what is needed for the collective and the individual. Regarding the virtue of the city and the connection of the Rav shlit"a to it, we wrote in the article Hebron Then and Forever.

Not for the First Time: The Hebron Gatherings Before Rosh Hashanah

The upcoming gathering joins a series of prayer gatherings held in Hebron in recent years during the days before Rosh Hashanah, under the directive and with the participation of the Rav shlit"a. This was the case at the prayer gathering in Hebron in the year 5784, and similarly at the gathering of thousands in Hebron in the year 5783, where thousands gathered in front of the Cave and recited the order of prayers together.

What to Do Now

  • Whoever can arrive — should arrive. The gathering is open to the entire public.
  • Anyone who needs transportation — subsidized buses are departing from all over the country, and you can register by calling 02.566.566.0.
  • Anyone who cannot attend — should recite the prayer for the arrival of the Rav shlit"a to Uman, and participate in the outcry from wherever they are.

Wednesday, 6 Elul 5786, at 19:30, at the Cave of the Patriarchs (Me'aras HaMachpelah) in Hebron.
