Prayer Before Wrapping the Tallis
Master of the Universe, Almighty, grant me the merit, when wrapping myself in the Tallis, to draw down all the spiritual lights of the Tallis and the Tzitzis, which correspond to the twelve precious stones of the High Priest's breastplate: "Odem, Pitdah, Barekes; Nofech, Sapir, and Yahalom; Leshem, Shvo, and Achlamah; Tarshish, Shoham, and Yashfeh." Through the wrapping of the Tallis, may the Sefirah of Malchus (Kingship) ascend to the Kesser (Crown) of Zeir Anpin (the Divine configuration of the emotional attributes), in the mystical secret of "A woman of valor is the crown of her husband." May I merit, at the moment of wrapping the Tallis, to attain the mystical secret of the Kohen Gadol (High Priest) entering the Holy of Holies. There, he merits to ascend to the Kesser of the Kesser of Adam Kadmon (the highest primordial spiritual realm), and then the secret of the Fiftieth Gate of Understanding is revealed to him. This is the level attained by Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov, and by Rabbi Akiva, who merited that all the souls of the Patriarchs and the Seven Shepherds became impregnated within him at the moment his flesh was combed with iron combs. He attained the mystical secret of the letter Shin (ש) with three heads—representing Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov—and the secret of the Shin with four heads—representing the secret of David, Yosef, Moshe, and Aharon. For it is written in Tractate Sukkah (52b): "And I will put My spirit within you." Because there are three things that Hashem regrets creating every single day: the Chaldeans who destroyed the Beis HaMikdash (Holy Temple); the Ishmaelites, as it is said, "The tents of robbers are at peace, and those who provoke God are secure, to whom God brings abundance with His hand"; and He regrets creating the Yetzer Hara (evil inclination), as it is said, "And whom I have afflicted." "And this shall be peace: when Assyria comes into our land, and when they tread in our palaces, then we will raise against him seven shepherds and eight princes of men." David is in the middle; Adam, Shes, and Mesushelach are on the right; Avraham, Yitzchak, Yaakov, and Moshe are on the left. "And eight princes of men" correspond to the eight strings of the Tzitzis: Yishai, Shaul, Shmuel, Amos, Tzephaniah, Chizkiyahu, Mashiach, and Eliyahu. For the light of the Tallis shines from one end of the world to the other, in the mystical secret of the skin of the Leviathan, which, in the Future to Come, Hashem will spread over the walls of Yerushalayim, and it will illuminate and shine from one end of the world to the other, in the mystical secret of the verse, "Will you spread his skin as a covering?"
