Prayer for the New Moon of the Month of Av 5777
From Morinu HaRav the Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a
Master of the Universe, the Omnipotent One, at the new moon (molad) of the month of Av, on Monday night [at] 22 [hours], 39 minutes, and 14 parts (chalakim), which is the secret of King David, peace be upon him. For in the month of Av the Holy Temple was destroyed, and the 370 (Shin-Ayin) myriads of lights that illuminated the Holy Temple were concealed, and the 405 (Tav-Hei) severe judgments (Gevuros) that destroyed the Holy Temple overpowered them.
And now, on 'Shabbos Nachamu', which corresponds to Manoach, the father of Samson, who, by saying "she is right in my eyes" (referring to the Philistine woman), brought about the terrible destruction. For on Shabbos Nachamu, we ascend to the Holy Beard (Dikna Kadisha), the Ancient of all Ancients (Atika Mikol Atikin), the Most Hidden of all Hidden things (Stima D'Chol Stimin), the secret of Primordial Man (Adam Kadmon), the secret of the Clean Wool (Amar Neka). From there came the soul of Amram, who, had he not divorced Yocheved, would have drawn down illumination from the hairs of Adam Kadmon upon all of Egypt. Then they would not have drowned in the sea, but would have done teshuvah (repentance), and we would have recited the complete Hallel.
But Hashem desired otherwise. He wanted Amram to do teshuvah (repentance), yet he only repented externally and not internally. Therefore, the Egyptians did not do teshuvah (repentance) and drowned in the sea. However, Pharaoh himself did true, internal teshuvah (repentance), and merited to become the king of Nineveh, where he brought everyone back in teshuvah (repentance).
For then, on Tisha B'Av, all the 405 severe judgments (Gevuros) are transformed into 370 myriads of lights, just as it was before the sin. For then the Head of all Heads (Reisha D'Chol Reisha), the Unknowable Head (Reisha D'Lo Reisha), the Head of Everything (Reisha D'Chola) is revealed, through that which is hidden, concealed, and secreted from all. This is the secret of "the hairy crown of him who walks in his guilt," the secret of "and to the crown of the head of the one separated from his brothers," which is the secret of the Resurrection of the Dead. As it is stated, "And Jacob took for himself fresh rods of poplar, hazel (luz), and chestnut (armon)." 'Luz' represents white, and 'armon' represents red, signifying the unification of white—loving-kindness (Chesed)—with red—judgment (Gevurah). For the primary spiritual work on Tisha B'Av is to draw down the Foundation (Yesod) of Primordial Man (Adam Kadmon), which is the aspect of Mordechai, and to draw it into the Foundation of the Lesser Countenance (Yesod of Zeir Anpin). Then, an abundant flow of Divine energy, known as the Light of the Infinite (Ohr Ein Sof), is drawn down.
For on Tisha B'Av, when the sciatic nerve (Gid HaNasheh) overpowers, we merit the reality of "it was turned upside down" (v'nahafoch hu). The 370 myriads of lights from the secret of "and to the crown of the head of the one separated from his brothers," from the secret of the Eight White Tones (Ches Chivarta), from which comes the soul of Terach—600 (Tav-Reish) myriads drawn from the Eight White Tones. From there, the Crown (Keser) and the Pure Air (Avira Dachya) are drawn to the Concealed Brain of the Long Countenance (Mocha Stima D'Arich Anpin). For all the seven kings along with King Hadar are clarified and rectified through the Concealed Brain (Mocha Stima), the Ancient of Ancients (Atika D'Atikin), the Most Hidden of all Hidden things, which illuminate through the Thirteen Rectifications of the Holy Beard (Yud-Gimmel Tikkunei Dikna), which are the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy.
And then Mashiach ben David will be revealed, who is called "Migdal Eder" (the Tower of the Flock). "Migdal Eder" shares the same numerical value (gematria) as Rachel and Leah, who are revealed through the subjugation of the King of Arad, which also shares the numerical value of Rachel and Leah. This is the secret of the Resurrection of the Dead.
Then the verse will be fulfilled: "Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls," "Let the earth open and salvation bear fruit," "Who caused His glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses," "And I will betroth you to Me forever; and I will betroth you to Me in righteousness, and in justice, and in loving-kindness, and in compassion. And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know Hashem." This is said regarding Tisha B'Av, "To grant the mourners of Zion, beauty instead of ashes," through the five afflictions (fasting, etc.), which correspond to the five prayers. Through them comes the atonement of all sins, in the secret of "Who caused His glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moses," "From His right hand went a fiery law for them." For Ben Azzai, Rabbi Abbahu, Rabbi Eliezer, Rabbi Yehoshua, Yonasan ben Uziel, Rabbi Elazar ben Arach, and all his colleagues were all surrounded by flaming fire during their Torah study. They merited the Supreme Concealed Point (Nekuda Stima Ila'ah) from which all fire originates—the very fire that had been inverted into the fire of lusts which destroyed the Holy Temple.
For the new moon (molad) falls in the middle of the Three Weeks, which correspond to the Luz bone (the indestructible bone from which the body is rebuilt) and the Luz tree, the secret of the Resurrection of the Dead. For in the city of Luz, the Angel of Death has no permission to pass. Therefore, the Three Weeks correspond to the Luz tree, in the secret of "And it came to pass in the morning, behold, it was Leah," to where Joseph ascended, in the secret of "and to the crown of the head of the one separated from his brothers." Therefore, the tribe of Gad, from whom Elijah the Prophet (Eliyahu HaNavi), may he be remembered for good, descends, merits the blessing: "He tears the arm, yea, the crown of the head."
For on Tisha B'Av, the 370 myriads of lights drawn from the Eight White Tones return, and all the 405 severe judgments (Gevuros) that caused the destruction of the Holy Temple are rectified. For then, on Tisha B'Av, the secret of His very Essence, may He be blessed, is revealed. We must nullify the 100 tears of Sisera's mother and the three tears of Esau, in the secret of "And You gave them tears to drink in great measure (shalish - a third)." The miracle was that the third tear did not fall, but dried upon his cheeks. Therefore, the Third Temple, which will be built now at the conclusion of Tisha B'Av, will never be destroyed.
For Mashiach is called Yinnon, as only he can rectify and invert the inverted Nuns (the backwards letter Nun in the Torah), in the secret of "Arise, and fall no more," "Come, look from the top of Amana." For all our spiritual attainments until the Resurrection of the Dead are in the secret of "And you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen." Only Rabbi Akiva merited the attainment of "face to face" when they combed his flesh with iron combs, and he attained the [secret of the letter] Shin of the Tefillin.
For the secret of the sciatic nerve (Gid HaNasheh) is the secret of Tisha B'Av, the secret of Nadav and Avihu, the secret of Pinchas. "Pen" corresponds to Nadav, and "Chas" corresponds to Avihu. For the sciatic nerve has no moisture whatsoever, and it alludes to the terrible blemishes of the Covenant (sins of immorality) that caused the destruction of the Holy Temple. For on Tisha B'Av the Holy Temple was destroyed, yet it is immediately rebuilt out of fire. This is like the Arab who told the Jew, "Sit on the ground and weep, for from the lowing of your cow I see that at this very moment the Holy Temple is going up in flames." But right after he sat on the ground, he immediately told him, "Arise, for from the lowing of your cow it appears that Mashiach has been born right now, at this very moment." For on Tisha B'Av, the Eight White Tones (Ches Chivarta) are revealed through the first eight days of Av, in the secret of the Clean Wool (Amar Neka). This is the secret of Amram, the father of Moses, whose soul illuminates perfectly at the new moon of the month of Av. For the hairs of the Clean Wool descend in balance from Primordial Man (Adam Kadmon) to the Skull of the Ancient One (Gulgaltha D'Atika), and from the Skull of the Ancient One to the Skull of the Long Countenance (Gulgaltha D'Arich Anpin), and from there to the Supernal Father and Mother (Abba and Imma), and from there to the Lesser Countenance (Zeir Anpin). For within the strand of hair that is drawn from the Concealed Brain (Mocha Stima'ah) and branches out into 32 paths, which are the 32 paths of the Work of Creation, corresponding to the 32 times the Name Elokim is mentioned. Therefore, they are long and smooth until they reach the innermost point of the Bride of Moses. For the Holy One, blessed be He, cast two tears into the Great Sea, from which came the destruction of the Holy Temple. For the judgments, which are the two tears, are red (sumka) and blue (tichla). And blue (tichla) is the strong color, a severe judgment that caused the destruction of the Holy Temple. Only the blue thread (techeiles) of the Tzitzis and the blue thread of the priestly garments can sweeten this. And with this, the maiden comes to the King's house in garments of purple and blue, from which the sash of the High Priest is made. This elevates the Kingship (Malchus) in the straight line of the Lesser Countenance (Zeir Anpin), in the secret of "When you light the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light toward the face of the Menorah." For on the 7th of Av, the Menorah of the Holy Temple is completed. For at Chatzos (midnight), the Holy One, blessed be He, roams through 18,000 worlds, and the tzaddik, who is the aspect of "David, King of Israel, lives and endures," awakens before the Holy One, blessed be He, and unifies with Him. Therefore, David merited eternal life, because in his lifetime he never missed Chatzos even once. For David, with his harp that would play by itself every midnight, drew all his melodies from the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), the well of Miriam. For the Kinneret is the harp (kinnor) of the Land of Israel, which awakens the Geulah (Redemption), in the secret of "Come, look from the top of Amana, from the top of Senir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards." For the blue (techeiles) that is in the Sea of Galilee is the portion of Zebulun, which consumes everything and destroys everything (the forces of evil). And the Kinneret, the secret of David's harp, annihilates all the husks (kelipos - forces of impurity) in the merit of Joseph the Tzaddik, in whom the angel Metatron was impregnated. Therefore, it is said of him, "And he was a youth (na'ar)." For regarding Kingship (Malchus) it is said, "Her clothing is fine linen (shesh) and purple (argaman)." The "fine linen" refers to the garments of the High Priest on Yom Kippur, and the "purple" refers to the five angels that surround the High Priest: Uriel, Raphael, Gabriel, Michael, and Nuriel. And Nuriel hovers over all four of them, in the secret of "And upon my head is the Shechinah (Divine Presence) of God." For there are six steps to the Throne, and four supports, which together equal ten (Yud). This is the secret of the letter Yud of Sarai, through whose power Joshua conquered the entire Land of Israel and cut off the husks (kelipos). And this is what Balak said: "As the ox licks up the grass of the field." This refers to Joseph, "His firstborn ox, majesty is his," the angel Metatron, the ark of Joseph that goes before the camp of Israel. For the Sea of Galilee is comprised of seven streams that transform red (sumka) into blue (tichla). Through this, they consume all the nations of the world: "And they shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber," "And shall smite the corners of Moab, and break down all the sons of Seth." The word "Pe'ah" (corner) has the same numerical value (gematria) as "Karkar" (break down) [86 = Elokim = 300]. For "He stirs up the sea, that its waves roar," in the secret of "Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls," in the secret of the Unknowable Head (Reisha D'Lo Reisha), in the secret of Tisha B'Av, the Head that is not known (Reisha D'Lo Isyada), the secret of the Holy Ancient One (Atika Kadisha).
