Purim: The Inner Dimensions and Secrets of the Holiday and the Megillah
The Righteous Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

A Purim lesson from our teacher, the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rav Eliezer Berland shlit"a, delivered in the year 5743 (1983), 34 years ago.
"After Purim, we read Parshat Parah, which is a preparation for Pesach, because we read Parshat Parah so that people will be careful to purify themselves from the impurity of the dead, in order to be pure to perform the Pesach offering. Now, it is thirty days before Pesach, when we study the laws of Pesach and merit to read the Megillah. Because at first, it is the aspect of 'pur' (lot) - Purim, named after the 'pur' of Parshat Parah, for the main thing is to be transformed into a cow, to burn the cow. For even after the resurrection of the dead, there will be a tikkun (rectification) of the Red Heifer, as a person must always burn his materiality. For Purim is certainly a path and a way to Pesach, and this is the aspect of 'His lips are like lilies, dripping with flowing myrrh' - his lips are the aspect of Pesach (shoshanim/lilies - peh sach/the mouth speaks)."
Esther is hinted at in the Song of Songs
"This lily is Esther, for 'shoshana' (lily) has the same gematria as 'Esther'. Then 'dripping with flowing myrrh' - this is the aspect of Mordechai, 'mor dror' (flowing myrrh), a term for freedom. Then, 'My beloved sent his hand to the hole' - this is Mordechai. In the Song of Songs, the matter of Esther is hinted at, for 'And Hashem shook off the Egyptians into the midst of the sea,' and a messenger of Hashem, an angel, went out and struck the camp of Assyria, one hundred and eighty-five thousand. Hashem struck Sennacherib through an angel, because Sennacherib blasphemed through a messenger, through Rabshakeh, so Hashem struck him through an angel. Pharaoh blasphemed himself when he said 'Who is Hashem?', so 'And Hashem shook off the Egyptians into the midst of the Red Sea,' so Hashem Himself shook off the Egyptians. But on Purim, when Haman said, 'There is one people scattered and dispersed among the nations,' he said that their God is asleep, because Haman believed in God but said, 'Their God is asleep; there is one people scattered and dispersed among the nations.'"
In the Megillah of Esther, the Name of Hashem is not written because it is above all names
"Mordechai is the gematria of 'hadormita' (slumber), the sleep of slumber, because a person slowly falls into sleep and loses all his intellect. Mordechai was the tzaddik who came from 'Atik' (the Ancient One), and therefore the Name of Hashem is not mentioned. 'And Hashem shook off the Egyptians' and 'Hashem sent and struck the camp of Assyria,' but here the Name of Hashem is not mentioned, neither in the Megillah of Esther nor in the Song of Songs. Because the Megillah of Esther, and Esther and Mordechai, who are hinted at in the Song of Songs, are above all names; this is the aspect of Atik, because it is above all names. And therefore, Purim should have been a revealed miracle, a complete miracle, a miracle of such a nature that it should not have been just one day, because it should have been the revelation of Mashiach in general."
In the Land of Israel, there is an accusation of 'How are these different from those?'
"Because in the plot of land that Jacob bought, there they cut the second covenant, and in the plot of land that David bought, there they built the Holy Temple, and the plot of land that Abraham bought is the entrance to the gates of Gan Eden. But all of the Land of Israel, where there is an accusation of 'How are these different from those?', there is an accusation that 'you are thieves.' So, the moment that, Heaven forbid, one descends even a little from their level, if a person descends even a little from their level, he no longer prays with intent, he no longer learns with intent, then Hashem sees that the Arab prays with more intent than you, Heaven forbid, the gentile learns the Gemara better than you, Heaven forbid. There are also gentiles who know the entire Shas by heart, so the accusation of 'you are thieves' is awakened, the accusation of 'how are these different from those' is awakened."
Mordechai came to wake us from our sleep after the accusation of 'How are these different from those' ended
"Therefore, they had to cut the final covenant in the plot of land that they bought for one hundred 'kesita' (coins), and the Holy Temple in the plot of land that they bought for six hundred gold shekels. And the gate to Gan Eden is through the place where the soul ascends to Gan Eden, through the four hundred 'alma d'kisufin' (worlds of longing), which is four hundred silver shekels. But the Land of Israel itself, if a person descends even a little from his level, then immediately there is a terrible accusation: 'What are you better than the Arabs? The Arabs fast for thirty days, the Arabs go every Friday to the mosques, may their names be blotted out, so what are you better than these Arabs?' Therefore, it was necessary for Cyrus to come and give the Land of Israel as a gift to the Jews, because Cyrus conquered the whole world; Nebuchadnezzar had already exiled all the Canaanites and pursued them. After the Land of Israel was already in our hands, it was a gift from the nations of the world, so that the gentiles could no longer say 'you are thieves' and say 'how are these different from those.' So now, Mordechai had to come and wake us from our sleep."
"The Ari says there should have been a complete Geulah (Redemption), and therefore 'On that day, Hashem will punish with His hard and great and strong sword upon Leviathan the fleeing serpent, and upon Leviathan the twisting serpent.' Because Purim and Sivan are the two holidays of the giving of the Torah, so the zodiac sign is a double sign, the sign of Gemini (Twins), a double sign, so also on Purim the sign is Gemini, the sign of Pisces (Fish) and Gemini, and also in Sivan. And therefore, in the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day, the final decrees were signed, so what was signed was signed, it was signed finally to kill, to destroy, and to annihilate all the forces of the people and the province, and to plunder their possessions. So there should have been such a revelation of killing, destroying, and annihilating all the forces of the people and the province, because there was an illumination of Atik, which is the illumination of the Leviathan."
At the time of Mincha, a new creation begins
"For Leviathan has the gematria of five hundred and one, corresponding to the years of the Patriarchs who lived five hundred and two years. Therefore, Leviathan is in Atik, that Hashem, at the time of Mincha, takes the Leviathan and plays with it. Because Mincha is a time of favor, He takes the Leviathan. Rebbe Natan says the time of Mincha is the time of the new creation; Hashem creates the new day at the time of Mincha, when the heart and the spring stand and sing songs to one another and wonderful riddles. And therefore, the sign of Pisces is the Leviathan and the Leviathaness, and the sign of Gemini is the son and the daughter, that is Moses and Zipporah, that only through them was the Torah given. And therefore, it was necessary to bring Zipporah before the giving of the Torah so that there would be twins through whom the Torah would be given."
When Adar enters, the holy fish, Mordechai and Esther, are revealed
"Mordechai and Esther are the two fish, they are the Leviathan and the Leviathaness, because Hashem salted the Leviathaness for the future to come. But when the month of Adar arrives, when Adar enters, we increase in joy, so the holy Leviathan and Leviathaness are revealed, the two holy fish. For the whole world hangs on one fin of the Leviathan, because the true Leviathan is from before the creation, before the first man was created. The Leviathan is from Atik, he is from before man was created, and since the Leviathan was created before the first man was created, he is also greater than the whole world. But Hashem hid the Leviathaness for the future to come, and this is the revelation of Adar, that the moment Adar enters, Hashem immediately plays with the Leviathan, and He also plays with him at the time of Mincha, which is the new revelation of the new day."
In the month of Adar, there should have been a completely new revelation, a revelation of a completely new creation, a revelation of Mordechai, who is entirely prayer
"Mordechai wears sackcloth and ashes and cries out a great and bitter cry. He takes twenty-two thousand children, about whom it is said, 'Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers take counsel together against Hashem and against His Mashiach: Let us break their bonds in pieces and cast away their cords from us. He who sits in heaven laughs; Hashem mocks them.' So, 'Do not touch My anointed ones,' these are the children of the house of the teacher, because the Rebbe said to someone, 'If you learn one hundred and nineteen pages, that is a little, the gematria of 'meat' (a little).' And therefore, page one hundred and nineteen, 119b in Shabbat, there they tell of the breath of the children of the house of the teacher. Because if a person learns only one hundred and nineteen pages a day, he is called a child, he is still called a child."
At the time of Mincha, Hashem teaches the children and plays with the Leviathan
"The Rebbe said if a person does not learn Gemara, he does not learn one hundred and nineteen pages of Gemara a day, then he is not even born yet. Because at one hundred and nineteen, one only reaches the breath of the mouths of the children of the house of the teacher, to 119b, only then does he begin to be born, he begins to breathe. Because if he does not have the intellect of the Gemara, then every second he lives is a waste; he is not yet called a child of the house of the teacher. Rebbe Nachman bar Yitzchak says that at the time of Mincha, Hashem teaches the children of the house of the teacher. The Gemara asks, 'How can you say sometimes that He plays with the Leviathan and sometimes that He teaches the children of the house of the teacher?' The Gemara says, 'Both and both.' He does both together, plays with the Leviathan and teaches the children of the house of the teacher, or if you wish, say the angel Metatron teaches them. And therefore, it is written regarding Samuel, 'And the boy, the boy,' that Samuel is equal to Moses and Aaron, and therefore on Purim, it is customary to dress up as Moses and Aaron."
On Purim, everyone dresses up as Moses and Aaron because everyone merits to be like them
"Because on Purim, everyone merits to be Moses and Aaron. Aaron carries the names of the Children of Israel on his heart, and when he enters the Holy of Holies, he carries them on his heart, and when he enters the Holy of Holies, they are already inside his heart. So every single Jew is engraved in his heart. Therefore, it is the custom of the Children of Israel to dress up as Moses and Aaron, because then everyone is in the aspect of Moses and Aaron. But Samuel is called a 'boy' (na'ar), and 'the boy, the boy, Moses and Aaron among His priests, and Samuel among those who call upon His name,' because Samuel merited to include both Moses and Aaron. So Samuel is called a boy, and Joshua is called a boy, 'And there was no prophet like Moses, whom Hashem knew face to face,' and Joshua bin Nun, the boy, did not depart from the tent. Joshua bin Nun merits to be the boy, therefore Samuel is also called a boy, and David is called a boy."
On Purim, there is a great illumination from the Atika that reaches even those who fell to the fiftieth gate
"Joshua cut a covenant with Israel in the plot of land, and David built the... in the plot of land, and therefore Joseph is also called a boy because he is buried in the plot of land. Anyone who is in the plot of land is called a boy. Therefore, Eliezer, the servant of Abraham, who is also called the angel Metatron, he also stands in the plot of land that Abraham bought; he stands at the entrance. Therefore, Eliezer, the servant of Abraham, merited that the way jumped for him, that he went from cursed to blessed, because when Purim arrives, there is an illumination of Atika that even if they already married foreign women, even if they already descended to where they descended, descended below the lowest depths to the fiftieth gate of impurity, which is hinted at by the 'nun', the 'nun' that descends to the fiftieth gate of impurity, then even if they already descended to the fiftieth gate of impurity, the illumination of Atika is revealed. Rebbe Natan says this is the love in the intellect, that the King has a son who is a murderer, he has a son who committed all the abominations in the world, so the King says, 'This is my son, to acquire his servants on the day of judgment.'"
Pharaoh said 'Who is Hashem?', but Sennacherib said that he is a messenger of Hashem
"Haman said, 'It is true that there is a Hashem, but there is one people whose God is asleep.' It is true that once they chose the people of Israel. Haman was not like Pharaoh who said, 'Who is Hashem?', so 'Hashem shook off Pharaoh and Egypt into the midst of the Red Sea.' He was not like Sennacherib who said, 'I, Hashem, went up and conquered all these lands.' Sennacherib said that Hashem sent me, I am a messenger of Hashem. 'You are a messenger of Hashem? Then the messenger of Hashem will come and strike the camp of Assyria, one hundred and eighty-five thousand.' Because when a person commits a sin, he says that he is a messenger of Hashem, so Sennacherib said that he is a messenger of Hashem, 'I am doing this on the mission of Hashem.' So the messenger of Hashem will come and strike you. But Haman said the opposite; Haman said that now the chosen people is Amalek, now the chosen people are the Nazis, may their names be blotted out, the Arabs, may their names be blotted out, they are the refined people."
Why do we say 'Blessed be Haman' on Purim?
"'And Agag went with delicacy,' what delicacy, what manners, what 'yiddishen', what 'dematishen', they are the chosen ones. He took the lot and wanted to overturn the choice. Because Haman was entirely holy, entirely holy of holies, therefore the Ari says that one must say 'Blessed be Haman' on Purim, to say it in drunkenness. Because whoever has no intellect will think that Haman is truly blessed, so we must say it in drunkenness, so that whoever has no intellect will say it only out of drunkenness, but in truth, from the children of Haman..."
"So from the children of Haman, they learned Torah in Bnei Brak, from the children of Sisera, they learned Torah in Jerusalem. I am either from Haman or from Jerusalem. Once I was in Bnei Brak, I fled to Jerusalem, so I am either from Haman or from Sisera. But from the descendants of Haman, then that Haman, the tzaddik, the holy of holies, he said, 'And ten thousand talents of silver I will weigh into the hands of those who have the charge of the king's business.' So the Pri Tzaddik says, what is 'the king's business'? 'I have a good gift in my treasury, and Shabbat is there.' So Haman said he would go up to the king's treasury, he would go up to that root, to Atika, to 'Rava D'Ravin' (the Will of Wills) on Shabbat at Mincha, that is Rava D'Ravin. He can go up to Rava D'Ravin and make a new choice, because he was entirely witchcraft, entirely delicacy, entirely kindness. So he said, 'I will give to the king's treasury, I will give to the King so that the King will distribute it for charity.' So Haman was entirely holy of holies, distributing charity. 'I will give ten thousand talents of silver so that the King will distribute it,' which is the king's treasury, it will go up to 'I have a good gift in my treasury,' to Rava D'Ravin."
"Because Shabbat is Rava D'Ravin, it is the three meals, that a person is afraid at the three meals of Shabbat, he flees, flees from Melaveh Malkah, the meal of King David. So one time, when Rebbe Bunim of Peshischa was there, they disturbed him from sleeping at Melaveh Malkah, his son made Melaveh Malkah, so he said, 'Stop, you are disturbing me from sleeping, I want to rise for Chatzot (midnight).' So King David came and said to him, 'Why are you disturbing my meal? This is a meal that David appears, Elijah the Prophet appears.' So a person does not want to meet David, does not want to meet Elijah the Prophet, because apparently he himself is David, he himself is Elijah the Prophet. So on Shabbat, it is Rava D'Ravin, and Melaveh Malkah is above Rava D'Ravin, so Elijah the Prophet and Mashiach ben David appear. Because when they sing it, they are not just singing it, they are appearing in truth, they are truly present, only people do not want to meet them because they are already present, perhaps in Atika, perhaps above Atika, so they do not want to meet them, they are afraid that they will have some healing."
"Because if a person sits at Melaveh Malkah, he has healing for all his illnesses, only people do not want healing, they want to be sick, so they flee from Melaveh Malkah because they prefer to be sick, to remain with their wife at home in comfort, in order to be sick afterwards. But whoever has intellect, he wants to meet Elijah the Prophet and Mashiach ben David. So there are moments that a person can merit to Geulah, can merit to healing, he does not want it because he is, thank God, he is the true tzaddik, he does not need these things (then Atika was revealed)."
"So Haman, the holy of holies, Haman the tzaddik, he wanted to go up to Atika, he wanted to overturn the choice and give to the king's treasury, he wanted to give to all the treasuries, he wanted to give (he wanted to distribute) it so that the King would distribute it all for charity, and through this to show that Amalek also distributes charity, Amalek also has charity distributors, the Nazis also have charity distributors, the Arabs also have charity distributors, all the Nazis have plenty of charity, perhaps more than the Jews, Heaven forbid. So Haman wanted to go up higher and higher, up to Atika, up to the king's treasury, up to that good gift, Rava D'Ravin. So there was no choice but for Mordechai and Esther to go up above all the names, because Haman went up not only to the fiftieth gate, he went up to the king's treasury, to Rava D'Ravin, he went up such terrible ascents."
"The Ari says that Esther, who was from Abba (Father), she was the daughter of Avichail - Avi Chail (my father is strength), that all the hosts above and below were from her, which is what Hannah said, 'Hashem Tzevaot (Lord of Hosts), if You will look upon the affliction of Your maidservant.' Hashem Tzevaot, she merited the hosts. 'The voice of my beloved, behold he comes, leaping over the mountains, skipping over the hills.' So the hills have the gematria of 'tzevaot' (hosts). The Ari says with the seven letters, so she went up to the hills, so 'skipping over the hills' (the Ari says), the Zohar says ('flee, my beloved') in the Idra Rabba in Ha'azinu, 'flee, my beloved... skipping over the hills,' go up to Atika, go up to the 'Reisha D'Lo Yada' (the Head that is not known), go up to the Reisha D'Lo Yada, which is until 'Ad D'Lo Yada' (until he does not know), that on Purim we go up until the Reisha D'Lo Yada."
"Because on Purim we go up to the Reisha D'Lo Yada, that on Purim we go up above Atika, because Haman succeeded in going up to Atika. So now Esther, who had a soul from Abba, and Mordechai, who had a soul truly from Atika, so they had to go up now to the Reisha D'Lo Yada, because Haman wanted to overturn the choice in general, he wanted to show that he does charity more than the Jews, he does kindnesses more than the Jews, he is holier than the Jews, he is more righteous than the Jews."
"Because this is what the gentiles work twenty-four hours to prove, that they are more righteous than the Jews, and the Jews have nothing to boast about, they already married foreign women, they already assimilated completely, they already descended lower and lower. So at that moment, the 'Reisha D'Lo Ityada' (the Head that is not known) was revealed, that it was revealed that Hashem and the people of Israel, Rebbe Natan says, it is one thing literally, that every single Jew is Divinity literally, every single Jew is Hashem Echad (One Hashem), Hashem Echad and His Name is One, the people of Israel is His Name is One. So Hashem is writing His tefillin, and 'Who is like Your people Israel, one nation on earth?' So Mordechai had to reveal that it is all Hashem Echad, so he took twenty-two thousand children, twenty-two corresponding to the twenty-two letters, about which it is said, 'Do not touch My anointed ones,' which is the breath of the mouths of the children of the house of the teacher who did not sin."
"So this is the secret of the Leviathan, that He plays with the Leviathan, the secret of the sign of Pisces, that then the Leviathan and the Leviathaness are revealed, which were Mordechai and Esther. Because the Leviathan is from even before the creation of man, the Leviathan is the Reisha D'Lo Ityada, that Hashem will take something from the Leviathan, after something remains of the Leviathan, they will make from it a Sukkah, they will make from it a feast, and after that they will make from it a cymbal and a cloud and an amulet, the Gemara says in Bava Batra. And after they make a cymbal and a cloud and an amulet, then something will remain of this Leviathan (from this something), because the Leviathan is such a thing that is greater than the entire space of the world, than all the stars. So from this something, the Gemara says that something will remain, so this something they will place on the walls of Jerusalem, and this light will go and shine in the whole world, the light of Jerusalem will go and shine in the whole world, and it will be, 'And nations will walk to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.'"
"So this will be after something remains of this Leviathan, so that same Leviathan and Leviathaness, who are the sign of Pisces, that Hashem was afraid that because of the excess light the world would burn, so He hid the Leviathaness for the future to come. So that same Leviathaness is Queen Esther, who is revealed on Purim in Adar, because it is the sign of Pisces. Because just as the light of Moses and Zipporah was revealed, that is the sign of Gemini, and then the Torah was given, and then the final decrees were signed to kill and annihilate and plunder their possessions, so too (merited) Mordechai and Esther merited that not only are they the sign of Gemini, but they were transformed into the sign of Pisces, they were transformed into the Leviathan and the Leviathaness that need to be revealed in the future to come, that they were supposed to bring the Geulah literally to the people of Israel, that their light went from one end of the world to the other, and many of the people of the land became Jews. That the something of this Leviathan in the end will be only something, and the something that will remain from all the divisions, from each... what they will do, then it will go and shine in the whole world, and from it they will make coverings for the walls of Jerusalem. So that same Mordechai and Esther, who merit to be the sign of Pisces, who merited to be that same Leviathan and Leviathaness, that they subdue the Leviathan the fleeing serpent and the Leviathan the twisting serpent, which are the leviathans of the Sitra Achra (the Other Side). That the fleeing serpent, that flees from... end to end, that is the beginning of nations, Amalek, and that is the twisting serpent that knows all the twisting, knows all the twists, knows all the tactics of holiness."
"That is Haman the wicked, who knows exactly why the people of Israel is the chosen people, because they are in the king's treasury, they distribute charity. But until a person feels that he is below every Jew, that he is lower than every Jew, which is the secret of Mordechai (who seeks good for his people), 'accepted by the majority of his brethren, seeking the good of his people and speaking peace to all his seed.' That Mordechai (he was entirely) he was below every single Jew, because only a person who is below every single Jew, he feels lower than every single Jew, so only he can not bow down to Haman. Because Mordechai said that Haman, he was not and was not created, there is no such thing, it did not exist at all, it was not even created at all. Because if a person holds onto the Reisha D'Lo Ityada, he reaches such intellect that he feels that every single Jew is holy of holies, that every single Jew is more than him, that every single Jew is infinite good."
"That is the 'mishloach manot' (sending of portions) that descends as manna from the heavens, that the 'man' (manna) that is in every single Jew is revealed, that they merited at the splitting of the Red Sea, 'And Hashem shook off the sea,' they merited that manna would descend. It should have been that same day, 'You will bring them and plant them in the mountain of Your inheritance,' because then there was a moment that the Holy Temple should have been built if they had followed Moses our teacher without questioning, in innocence running after Moses. So on that same day, Moses would have brought them to Jerusalem, on that same day the Holy Temple would have been built, and the light would have gone from one end of the world to the other. And the man Mordechai, corresponding to Moses the man of God, so Hashem wanted to return all the light of the splitting of the Red Sea. At the splitting of the Red Sea, there was 'And Hashem shook off,' the Name Havayah was revealed there. So Hashem wanted to return - the Ari says - now this light with greater intensity and greater strength, because Mordechai was from Atika, and Haman also wanted to go up to Atika. So Mordechai had to go up to the Reisha D'Lo Ityada, that there is no Haman at all, there is nothing, because if a person can think that he is better than some Jew, then he is not holding onto the Reisha D'Lo Ityada, he is not holding onto Atik, not onto Havayah, he is in the lowest depths and below him in the ten crowns of impurity?"
"Because if a person can for one moment open his eye, then he is in a world of imaginations, so he cannot say that there is no Haman, because he opened his eye, so he is entirely following the imagination. But King Saul, who was a year old when Saul reigned (so that same King Saul who was a year old when he reigned), so that same King Saul who is pure, there is no (in him) any sin, so he said, 'If so, there is no sin in the world,' because a person who has no sin in him, he does not believe that there is sin in the world, he does not believe that someone sins. So he said, 'If so, then Agag also does not sin.' But the true tzaddik, who is the Reisha D'Lo Ityada."
"Because Saul was from Atika, and David was from the Reisha D'Lo Ityada, therefore David is the small one, David is a boy, David says, 'There is no Goliath, there was no Goliath, Goliath was not created, there is no such thing, I do not believe that there is such a thing, there are no lions, there are no bears, there is nothing.' If some poor sheep, someone is plotting against it, then he no longer exists... I do not know, I know that whoever plots against a sheep, then he is not in the world, so he is already disconnected from the root, so he is transformed into imagination. So that same David, who is in the Reisha D'Lo Ityada, that lions and bears to him are called imaginations, they were not and were not created, because they want to touch some sheep, so to touch, Heaven forbid, the people of Israel, to touch a Jew, Heaven forbid. So if a person tries to touch a Jew, King David says, 'It does not exist, it is not there.' 'Your servant also struck the lion and the bear,' and he grabbed him by his beard."
"The Rebbe says in Torah 4 that only King David can subdue the forehead of the serpent, because he is the forehead of holiness. Because the strength of Atika is the intellect of the lion, which is the 'butzina d'kardunita' (the spark of darkness), which is the secret of Chanukah. Because Chanukah is the 'Hod' (Splendor) in the 'Netzach' (Victory), while Purim is the 'Netzach' in the 'Hod'. Because Chanukah is the Hod in the Netzach, because it is the Hod in the Netzach... of the Shamash (attendant candle) of Chanukah, it is more precious than the candles of Chanukah. Therefore, we put the Shamash on the candles, and regarding the Shamashim, one must be more careful than with the candles, to honor them more than the candles, to put them in oil so that they will burn more than the candles. Because the Shamashim are in the Reisha D'Lo Ityada, that they complete... to forty-four, between blood and blood, to complete silence. And therefore, Esther (does not) tell of her people and her birthplace... and therefore it is called the 'province of silence'."
"So when we reach Purim, it is the province of silence, and Esther does not tell of her people... and Esther does what Mordechai says, as when she was brought up with him, which is the Reisha D'Lo Ityada. Esther does not answer any questions, and when she came to the King, she asked for nothing, she asks for nothing, she requests nothing, she wants no intellect, nothing, she only wants whatever the King will do with me, it will be good. 'And when her father and mother died, Mordechai took her as his daughter,' she has no father, she has no mother, she has no intellect, she has nothing, because she is the Reisha D'Lo Ityada. She does not need intellect, she does not need some heart, and she does not need a father or a mother or anything, because she herself is a father. So if she herself is a father, then she does not need a father, she does not need anything, and not only is she herself a father, she goes up even to Atika and goes up from Atika to the Reisha D'Lo Ityada."
"And Mordechai walked every single day to know the welfare of Esther and what would be done with her, and Mordechai raises her to the Reisha D'Lo Ityada, that there is no Goliath and there is no Haman, it did not exist, it was not created, it exists... because if a person does not open the eye, then there is no Goliath. If a person does not think that he is better than some Jew, then there is also no Haman. Because if I am below everyone, then there is no Haman, there is only the Reisha D'Lo Ityada, there is only Hashem Yitbarach (the Blessed Hashem), which is the secret of Purim, that 'Ad D'Lo Yada' (until he does not know), that there is nothing, there is no Haman, there is no Goliath. But who can say this? Someone who never opens his eyes, someone who does not think that he is more than someone, because I do not exist, if I do not exist."
"So also Haman does not exist, nothing exists, there is only Hashem Yitbarach. But if I exist, then Haman also exists, Haman is more heroic than me, he is a king, he is a prime minister, I am just sitting at the King's gate, sitting there with sackcloth. So if I exist, then the Arab also exists, the Nazi also exists, the lion also exists, the Russian also exists. But if I do not exist, I believe with complete faith that I do not exist, which is the secret of the Megillah, the secret of 'D'Lo Yada' (that he does not know), that they do not know anything, that a person wants nothing, not intellect, not heart, nothing, he only serves Hashem twenty-four hours without opening the eye, even for the blink of an eye, he does not open any eye, even for the blink of an eye. Like Joseph, who did not open his eyes even for the blink of an eye, and for some opening of some millionth of a second, they had to skin the skin (of Rabbi Shimon ben Gamliel), of Rabbi Yishmael the High Priest... it required white-hot skewers in his eyes to atone for that millionth of a second."
"But our holy Rebbe, whose lips are like lilies, dripping with flowing myrrh, that lilies is the gematria of Esther... and myrrh is Mordechai, 'mor dror' (flowing myrrh), and 'dripping' with the 'kolel' (the word itself) is five hundred and fifty-six, which is the gematria of Nachman ben (Feiga)... [Simcha]. So 'dripping', when the tzaddik arrives who did not open his eyes even for a millionth of a second, did not see the world at all, did not know that there is Haman in the world at all, did not know that there are Russians in the world, did not know that there is Napoleon in the world, did not know that there are wars in the world, that the whole world and we are like the blink of an eye, which is the Reisha D'Lo Yada. 'And they will never be ashamed, all who take refuge in You,' that whoever holds onto that One, onto that Netzach, onto that Reisha D'Lo Ityada, which is Nachman ben Simcha ben Feiga, then there are no Hamans and no Russians and no Goliaths and no lions and no bears, there is only Hashem Yitbarach in His glory and Himself, and we will merit to a complete Geulah speedily in our days, amen."
