Rallying for the Righteous Avreichim! Saving the Holy Torah Institutions of Shuvu Banim

For the institutions of ‘Shuvu Banim’ – Nechamas Tzion: an expanded framework offering a wide range of learning tracks for avreichim who want to devote themselves to their Torah study despite the heavy burden upon their necks. These avreichim receive respectable monthly living stipends, in addition to the government religious stipend.

The Old City Kollel
The soul of the holy community is the yeshivah in the Old City, close by and overlooking the place of the Beis HaMikdash. Steadily and consistently, about 200 precious avreichim come to this holy place. The yeshivah offers learning tracks both in in-depth study and in broad mastery. In addition, there are tracks for the study of halachah and dayanus (rabbinical judgeship), as well as shiurim in Kabbalah.
The avreichim of the yeshivah enjoy hot, nourishing meals every day, so they can sit and learn continuously from sunrise until night.
It was in this place that The Rav shlit"a began building the foundations of our holy community. He sat and strengthened the avreichim and bachurim in the paths of serving Hashem and pure yiras Shamayim. Today, they are outstanding Torah scholars and devoted servants of Hashem, drawing thousands to take shelter beneath the wings of the Shechinah and to the light of The Rav shlit"a, in the way of our holy Rebbe Nachman.
Breslov Kollel for Halachic Rulings
In the year 5757 (1997), the kollel was founded for the community’s second generation, reflecting the pure aspiration of The Rav shlit"a that the younger generation invest their entire being in learning Shas and poskim, and in clarifying each sugya according to halachah. Indeed, about 100 G-d-fearing avreichim learn here with total dedication to the holy Torah, striving to clarify halachah to its very depths. Over its 26 years of existence, the kollel has produced halachic authorities in Israel, who were examined by leading Torah sages and who inspired admiration in light of their remarkable knowledge.
The kollel is located in a central area for the benefit of the community, and it hosts holy gatherings and a variety of essential activities for bachurim and avreichim throughout the year.
Recently, a “danger of closure” has been hovering over the kollel building, because the property was put up for sale by the court-appointed receiver responsible for the site. Therefore, the institution’s administrators stepped forward beyond the institutions’ financial capacity and signed a contract to purchase the building, thereby removing the immediate threat of closure. The purchase cost totals 1,200,000 NIS!
Younger Avreichim Kollel: ‘Shaarei Hora’ah’
With the community’s growth—and with dozens of young avreichim who married just within the last year—and with the understanding that they need a special, supportive environment and guidance in day-to-day life, the institution’s leadership took on an additional responsibility and established this kollel. In this way, another link was added to the chain of Torah and kollelim in the community.
At the head of the kollel stands the gaon Rabbi David Weinstock shlit"a, an esteemed halachic authority in Jerusalem. The Rosh Kollel charts for them a unique path of learning, with a special approach and clear understanding of the rhythms of their lives—and they become bound to him with cords of love.
Over the course of the year, important and well-known rabbanim visited the kollel’s beis midrash, assessed the avreichim’s caliber, and expressed their admiration.
