Rosh Hashanah: A Time for Blessing Childless Women – The Daily Chizuk from the Gaon and Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

We do not know exactly if the yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) of Yosef is on the 1st or 2nd of Tammuz. This is because Rachel was blessed with a child on Rosh Hashanah, but we do not know if it was on Rosh Hashanah itself or the day after.

The Daily Chizuk (strengthening) from the Gaon and Tzaddik, our teacher Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a, Tuesday, 21st of Elul 5784

From Rosh Hashanah until the yahrtzeit (anniversary of passing) is 9 months. Therefore, Rachel, Rivkah, Sarah, and also Chanah were blessed with children on Rosh Hashanah—and also Rivkah. For the Vilna Gaon writes that only Rachel, Sarah, and Rivkah [were remembered], while the holy Rashi writes that Chanah was also blessed with a child on Rosh Hashanah. Everyone was blessed with children on Rosh Hashanah—Rosh Hashanah is the time when all childless women are blessed with children, because then we read, "And Hashem remembered Sarah" (Genesis 21:1).

Reb Noson says that now, when we read in the Torah "And Hashem remembered Sarah," it is possible for all childless women to be blessed with children. If a person reads, or listens to the reading of "And Hashem remembered" in the Torah, and he also prays (on Rosh Hashanah) until 4:00 in the afternoon, and afterwards they go to the seudah (festive meal), and then they go to Tashlich (prayer by the water)—then it is possible for all childless women to be blessed with children, "And Hashem remembered Sarah" (Genesis 21:1).

On Rosh Hashanah Rachel was blessed with a child; soon it will be Rosh Hashanah.

Raising Children

In my life, I never picked up a child, never; I don't know what it means to pick up a child. I see people who pick up children—in my life I never held a child in my arms, in my life I never gave a child a kiss.

It is forbidden to hold a child in one's arms, it is forbidden to stroke him, because in this way one makes him crippled, one makes him dependent.

The child wants to develop on his own; there is no need to give him any kisses. One only needs to sing all the Shabbos Zemiros (Sabbath songs) with the children—always sing all the Zemiros, because that is what sustains the children.

Now (on Rosh Chodesh Sivan) is the prayer of the holy Shelah in Teveria (Tiberias); everyone is traveling there, there are 10,000 people there now.

Everyone should travel to Teveria, today is Rosh Chodesh (the start of the new month).
