Ten Years Since the Mighty Teshuvah Gathering—With Thousands of the People of Israel at Winter Stadium, Led by the Holy Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a

Ten years since the mighty Teshuvah gathering at Winter Stadium—when The Rav shlit"a instructed that this tremendous assembly be held under the banner, “There are no wicked people in the Nation of Israel” — a full report from the mighty Teshuvah gathering in Ramat Gan:

That very statement, which caused countless Jews at Yad Eliyahu Stadium to ignite the Jewish spark hidden within their souls and return in Teshuvah. In the words Rabbi Berland shlit"a delivered before the gathering, he said: “And this is the purpose of the gathering—to bring back all of the Nation of Israel, and the entire world as well—both Jews and non-Jews—to bring everyone back to their Father in Heaven. ‘In the image of G-d He created man’—every person has a spark from Hashem, may He be blessed; both a Jew and a non-Jew have a Divine spark. And the entire purpose of the gathering is to bring the light of Hashem and the light of Rebbe Nachman, the holy one, to the whole world—Jews and non-Jews.”

The gathering began toward evening on Thursday night—on the eve of the 9th of Tammuz, 5772—exactly about a decade ago, when the stadium was filled with thousands of Jews from every group and shade across the spectrum: Chareidim and secular Jews, knitted kippahs alongside Neturei Karta—an actual ingathering of exiles that only a Teshuvah gathering like this can unite.

Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a entered to the song, “May You add days upon the king’s days…” and began with the melody, “My soul longs, indeed it pines…” After that, he delivered a shiur of more than fifty minutes, in which he cried out about the compassion that exists within every Jew. “We must stop the terrible slaughter in Syria,” The Rav shlit"a said then. He continued by speaking about the good point that exists in every Jew—that every Jew truly wants to return in Teshuvah—and that there is no such thing as ‘secular Jews’ in the Nation of Israel!

After the shiur, The Rav began the melody, “The desert and the wasteland will rejoice, and the plain will exult…” Then he delivered another shiur, and once again began singing, “The desert and the wasteland will rejoice, and the plain will exult…”—each time with an even greater, more awakening vitality.

After the singing, Rabbi Berland shlit"a began reciting the famous The Tikkun HaKlali to a melody that accompanied our people throughout all the difficult years of exile that came afterward, and in all the mass gatherings in Chevron and throughout the land—slowly, with a tune and a sweetness, “as though King David, peace be upon him, were saying it…”

At the conclusion of the singing, he began the order of hiskashrus before the prayer, and with the song, “Save Your people…” After four minutes of singing, he began delivering another shiur, thanking everyone who helped and assisted with the gathering, and once again began singing, “The desert will rejoice…” After that, he began the Ma’ariv prayer with melodies—alive with vitality and with a blazing fire.

At the end of the prayer, after reciting four chapters of Tehillim that The Rav shlit"a would customarily say after the prayer, he delivered another shiur. In it, he called on everyone to strengthen themselves and disconnect from all unfit devices. Through this, everyone will merit to return in Teshuvah, and we will merit the complete Geulah speedily in our days, amen. After two hours and twenty-five minutes, Rabbi Berland shlit"a left the Teshuvah gathering with the song, “In You, Rebbe, we will rejoice…” and headed toward the City of the Patriarchs, Chevron, where he recited The Tikkun HaKlali together with our people who merited it.
