The Decision: Rabbi Salmanovitz Declares: “Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a Is a Man of G-d, an Angel of Hashem Tzevakos—and I Love Him Very Much”
“No one can deny what I hold in my heart about the holy Tzaddik, Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a,” says the Chassidic elder, Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Salmanovitz, refuting the lies being spread in his name by those who persecute the Rav shlit"a. “I hold that the Rav shlit"a was sent from Heaven to the last generation—a man of G-d, a Rav who resembles an angel of Hashem Tzevakos. True, when I speak with private individuals (Rabbi Salmanovitz is hinting to the Rav’s persecutors—whom he did not want to pain, and therefore spoke gently in a way that would be pleasant to their ears), I say things in order not to hurt them, and also so that they will stop arguing against the Rav shlit"a.”

“The Rav shlit"a is saving tens of thousands of people in this generation from descending into destruction. He has a personal connection with them by phone, and he remembers everyone’s personal details—it is unbelievable. It is forbidden to publicize these things too much, so that it should not, Heaven forbid, harm the Rav shlit"a (this is also one of the reasons the Rav hides himself in ever-new concealments). But these are details I know personally—how he saved tens of thousands of people.”

“Rebbe Nachman speaks about the Oral Torah as the greatest sign that a person is on the side of holiness. And who is like Rabbi Berland shlit"a, who never stops speaking words of the Oral Torah, and who speaks peace within his heart. The Rav shlit"a merited to be like a father to Israel. And no matter what people say about him, I judge them favorably—even those who recorded me (against my will and without my knowledge). And I received these traits as well, in great measure, from Rabbi Eliezer ben Atia—a man of G-d, an angel of Hashem Tzevakos.”

“We are in the End of Days. You can see that Moshiach is coming. The whole world is storming and shaking. It will be so good and so pleasant, and all of Rebbe Nachman’s teachings will be revealed with such radiance and light. What are all these iPhones and the garbage that’s in Bnei Brak and Tel Aviv? It’s a shame. Precious Jews—why do we need to enter into conflict? We have Tzaddikim in this generation. Let’s go out to the fields and cry out to Hashem. Who is like the Rav shlit"a, who distributed millions of shekels to help people go out to the fields? Who is like the Rav shlit"a, who sings the melodies of prayer? As Rebbe Nachman says: one who sings the melodies of prayer clothes the Shechinah in garments of shining light.”

“The Rav shlit"a opened the path to Uman and gave over his life for the journeys to Uman. The Rav showed everyone that it is possible to guard the eyes, and many thousands throughout the entire world walk in this way. How pleasant they are, how good—his students, and Breslov Chassidim in general. What can I do? I believe the Rav is something very, very great. Even though I love all Breslov Chassidim—what can I do? I love the Rav shlit"a very, very much. With all the questions they tried to stuff into me about the Rav shlit"a—what can I do? Such wonders: a person who merited wholeness in the Oral Torah.”

Now we need to understand the continuation of Rabbi Salmanovitz’s words. After we published the sharp message that he conveyed through the well-known philanthropist, Rabbi Yisrael Zinger shlit"a, and also his words that he said in the past, those same persecutors turned again to their crooked ways and returned to harass Rabbi Salmanovitz as well. He—who does not have the strength to withstand their pressure-cooker—tries, in the continuation of his words, to soften the message somewhat. But any person of understanding realizes from his words that he is speaking out of fear, while in truth his view is love and a strong bond to Rabbi Berland shlit"a.

“I am with the Rav shlit"a. In truth—who am I that I should be ‘with’ the Rav? I have known the Rav shlit"a from before I got married, and he has such wholeness. With the Rav I saw wholeness both in the mouth and in the heart—Divine wisdom and an awesome, intense cleaving. He hides himself in such a beautiful way, and he confounds the whole world—both in times when he wears ‘greatness’ and when he disguises himself in ‘smallness.’ No one can grasp him. May we merit that he will lead us toward Moshiach Tzidkeinu. I saw that the Rav shlit"a is always in awe of Heaven; all his deeds are always with awe of Heaven. No one can deny it: all his fingers move and sway without stopping as he traces with them the Name Havayah, in his cleaving to the Name. We all pray that Hashem will lengthen his days and years.”

“Actual Ruach HaKodesh. I heard how the Rav shlit"a calls many people moments before suicide—at the very last second he saves them. It is unbelievable. The holy Rabbi Berland—holy of holies—taught us this sense of shame, and all the lowliness and humility that he has. Whoever knows him understands how ‘greatness’ and publicity are nothing to him, and how even when he is forced to wear greatness for the sake of the world, he hides himself within it. He is entirely goodness and compassion. How many difficult labors he did for Hashem without end, and how much compassion he has for human beings. I myself saw endless compassion from him. How much he cried over people who were struggling and in distress.”

“Everything that burns within him is only good: Rebbe Nachman, Rosh Hashanah, fields, forests. This conflict is only in order to bring Moshiach and to reveal Rebbe Nachman throughout the whole world. The Rav paid millions to bring people out for Hisbodedus, and I’m not even speaking about all the other millions he poured out for Hashem. Until today the Rav pays millions to people—even from within prison.”

“Now is the time to turn everything to good. If we merit to unite, we can bring Moshiach, and the whole world will see the beauty of Rebbe Nachman.”
