The Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a at the Funeral of His Brother-in-Law in the City of Haifa

Yesterday, Monday, the 22nd of Av, Parshat Re'eh, in the morning hours, Gabriel Eliyahu Chaim of the Gal family passed away. He was the only brother-in-law of the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he be distinguished for a long life), married to the sister of the Rebbetzin (the Rav's wife). The Rav shlit"a arrived to participate in the funeral (levaya) which took place at the 'Sadeh Yehoshua' cemetery in Haifa.

The Rav shlit"a, who arrived during the burial in the afternoon, delivered words of eulogy (hesped) for his brother-in-law. The Rav shlit"a spoke of his greatness, noting that he merited to establish a glorious Jewish family while maintaining a religious lifestyle despite all the trials (nisyonos). In his merit, Haifa and the Neve Sha'anan neighborhood have become Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) today. The Rav mentioned that when they were children, there were no Haredim at all in Haifa, and in the merit of his parents as well as his brother-in-law, who insisted on preserving a religious way of life, Haifa became more and more Haredi. The Rav shlit"a added that in Judaism there is no such thing as "death"—the soul continues to exist, and he has left the life of this world for eternal life.
