The Secret of “Woe to the Man Whom an Arod Attacked, and Woe to the Arod That Attacked Rabbi Chanina ben Dosa”
The secret of all arodim, which are wild donkeys and the most dangerous of all snakes: All the arodim were formed from the bones of Balak and Bilam (= 274), because the Jewish people caused a separation between Rachel and Leah. For the entire avodah of Yaakov Avinu was to unite Rachel with Leah, and to bring Leah’s heels into Rachel’s crown. For Leah’s heels within Rachel’s crown correspond to the middle of Tiferes of Ze’ir Anpin. About this it is said, “Upon Edom I will cast My shoe.” And why does it say “My shoe,” and not “I will draw My sword—my hand will dispossess them,” or “I will draw My spear”? Rather, the essence of “Upon Edom I will cast My shoe” is Leah’s shoe, from which Rachel’s crown is made. Therefore it says: “What humility made into a heel for the sole—as it is said, ‘The heel of humility is the fear of Hashem’—it made fear into a crown upon its head.” For from the heel—the sole—of Leah, Rachel’s crown was formed. And this is the secret of “the king of Arad,” about which Rashi says (on Chukas): this is the king of Amalek, who is called Arad after the arod—the most dangerous snake in the world—formed from the bones of Balak and Bilam [= 247], through the separation between Leah’s shoe and Rachel’s crown. For the entire joining of Leah’s shoe with Rachel’s crown is accomplished only through songs and melodies, dancing and jumping. For when one lifts and springs the heels—like Izevel, who would spring her heels—through this, the dogs did not eat them. And every time a person springs the heels, it is in the secret of “And it shall be, because you will listen” (“vehayah eikev tishme’un”). For through springing the heels, one merits that the Name Havayah penetrates all the way down to the heels, which have the gematria of “vehayah.” And then, when the Name Havayah enters into the heels, one merits that Leah’s heels connect with Rachel’s crown; then Edom is uprooted, and the verse is fulfilled: “Upon Edom I will cast My shoe.”[embeddoc url="https://www.shuvubanimint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/ה-הוא-האלקים-יום-א-קרח-כב-סיון-תשפג1.pdf" download="all" viewer="google"]
