The Secret of Yehoshua’s Humility • The Daily Teaching from the Holy Tzaddik

How is the letter yud that Yehoshua received connected to his success in conquering the Land? And what is the connection…? You will find the answers to these questions in the daily teaching before you, written by the holy Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a—full and overflowing with wondrous new insights your ear has never heard.

Here is the complete teaching for reading and downloading:

The Secret of “Yehoshua’s Humility”

When Moshe saw Yehoshua’s humility—this being the secret of the yud of Sarah that was added to the name Hoshea—when Moshe saw how the yud of Sarai entered into Yehoshua’s name, Moshe immediately blessed him: “Y–H (Hashem) shall save you from the counsel of the spies.”

For the spies had a plan for how to kill Yehoshua bin Nun. In their thinking, after he heard Eldad and Meidad saying, “Moshe will die and Yehoshua will bring [the people] in,” they would go throughout the camp with a megaphone and proclaim: “Moshe Tanuach Nafshecha B’Gan Elokim, Yehoshua Machnis” (“Moshe, may your soul rest in the Garden of G-d; Yehoshua will bring [them] in”)—an acronym for “mitnab’im” (“they are prophesying”) (Bamidbar 11:27, and Baal HaTurim there).

The work Asarah Ma’amaros explains: they did not understand that the entire intention of this prophecy is only the good news of Techiyas HaMeisim (the Resurrection of the Dead)—because the moment Moshe passes away, the very next stage is Techiyas HaMeisim.

For Eliyahu HaNavi brings a person to Ruach HaKodesh (Divine inspiration), and Ruach HaKodesh brings Techiyas HaMeisim. And the Land is called “Eretz HaChayim” (“the Land of the Living”)—the land whose dead will live first. For Eliyahu HaNavi will come three days before Moshiach and, at their end, he will announce the Geulah. For the moment Eliyahu appears openly and proclaims the coming of Moshiach—since Eliyahu HaNavi left his body in the lower Gan Eden 177 and ascended with his soul to the upper Gan Eden.

And therefore everything is accomplished through the “yud” of Sarai that Yehoshua bin Nun received—because the “yud” is the Ten Kinds of Melody, through which Yehoshua bin Nun would conquer Eretz Yisrael. As it is written in Tov HaAretz: the acronym of “Eretz Kena’an” is “Kinor Na’im Im Nevel” (“a pleasant harp with a lyre”) (Tehillim 81:3)—an acronym for Eretz Kena’an, teaching that the conquest of the Land will be through our hearing the Ten Kinds of Melody alluded to in the “yud” of Sarai.Download the document
