Yonatan ben Uziel, Who Was Worthy of the Shechinah Resting Upon Him Like Moshe Rabbeinu • The Hillula of the G-dly Tanna and Prayers to Become a Groom

Today, the 26th of Sivan, according to tradition, is the day of the Hillula (anniversary of passing) of the G-dly Tanna (Mishnaic sage) Yonatan ben Uziel zy"a (may his merit protect us), over whom any bird that flew would be consumed by fire. The tomb of Yonatan ben Uziel is known as a place auspicious for zivvugim (soulmates) and for decent shidduchim (marriage matches). Before you is a collection of prayers from the Gaon and Tzaddik Rabbi Eliezer Berland shlit"a (may he live long and good days) to be said at the holy and awesome gravesite of the Tanna Yonatan ben Uziel, as well as prayers to become a groom from the prayer pamphlet 'Tefilah L'Ani' (A Prayer for the Poor) – To Become a Groom.

At the Gravesite of Yonatan ben Uziel:

Master of the Universe, Almighty, as I stand before the holy and awesome Tziyun (gravesite) of the formidable and awesome Tanna (Mishnaic sage) Yonatan ben Uziel, who was the greatest among the students of Hillel the Elder, and was worthy of the Shechinah (Divine Presence) resting upon him like Moshe Rabbeinu, and was worthy of making the sun and moon stand still. Please, Merciful and Gracious One, merit me to make the sun and moon stand still like Moshe and Yehoshua, and to merit through his merit the unification of the sun and moon, which is the unification of Chochmah (Wisdom) and Binah (Understanding), and through this to merit Nefesh, Ruach, Neshamah, Chayah, Yechidah (the five levels of the soul). Atone for all my sins and my blemishes of the Bris (covenant/purity), and may I never blemish my Bris again, not in thought, not in sight, not in speech, and not in action. May I merit through the merit of the G-dly Tanna who dwells here, before whose holy Tziyun (gravesite) I stand in awesome dread and fear, to shed tears like water, as it is written: "Streams of water shed from my eyes because they did not keep Your Torah." May I merit to hear the roars of the Holy One, Blessed be He, over the doe (the Shechinah) that has distanced herself from Him, as it is written: "He shall surely roar over His habitation," and how He kicks at the three hundred and ninety firmaments, and sheds tears as hot as fire into the Great Sea. From the power of these tears, the Minister of the Sea called Rahab stands and exists; he was appointed over the Shamir worm and delivered it to the Duchifat (hoopoe bird) 520, the secret of ten times Eliyahu HaNavi (Elijah the Prophet) of blessed memory, who shall be revealed speedily in our days, Amen.

Master of the Universe, with trembling and quaking, dread and awe, and all my bones shudder from fear, and my knees knock one against the other—how can a maggot and worm like me come before the G-dly Tanna, the head of Hillel's students, who is equivalent to Moshe Rabbeinu, and who can make the sun and moon stand still? And I, with my many evil thoughts and my loathsome deeds, dare to stand before his holy majesty. But I lean upon his infinite mercy, and I know there is no end to His mercy, especially for a sinner and transgressor like me, for there is no greater transgressor than me in the whole world and in all generations. Just as he merited that any bird flying over him would be burned, so may You merit me as well, that all my evil thoughts shall be burned and disappear completely, and all my evil and loathsome deeds shall be turned into merits, in the merit that I now accept upon myself at his holy Tziyun (gravesite) a thought of true Teshuvah (repentance), not to sin anymore from now and forever, and to guard my eyes and my thoughts with the ultimate guarding.

To Become a Groom:

Master of the Universe, Almighty, from Whom no purpose is withheld, merit me to reach my true Tikkun (rectification) according to the root of my soul, and to always remain a true Breslever in the Shuvu Banim Yeshiva, where they teach that Rebbe Nachman is the inclusion of all the Tzaddikim and their root. Merit me to love Hashem day and night without ceasing and without a second's interruption, and may I merit to be attached to You—I, my children, and my descendants until the end of all generations. Merit me to a Kallah (bride) who will also be attached to Hashem twenty-four hours a day, whether asleep or awake, and to fulfill "I have set Hashem before me always," and the Name Havayah (the Tetragrammaton) shall not move from before my eyes. May I merit to be attached to You twenty-four hours a day, every moment and second, whether awake or in a dream, and I shall not distract my mind from Hashem even for a fraction of a second. I shall know faithfully that it is Hashem Who leads me every moment and second, in every single movement, along with our holy and awesome Rebbe, Rebbe Nachman ben Simcha ben Faiga. Please Hashem, merit me to study every day for 18 hours consecutively, with three prayers and an hour of Hisbodedus (secluded prayer), and to sleep and eat for a duration of six hours. I shall no longer be jealous of anyone, nor think evil of any person in the world, nor see faults in anyone, Heaven forbid, and not be like Cain who only saw faults, as it is written "at the end of days," the secret of "the end of all flesh" [Torah 38]. May I merit to draw close to You with all my Nefesh, Ruach, Neshamah, Chayah, and Yechidah, and be attached with all my 248 limbs and 365 sinews, as it is written: "My soul thirsts for You, my flesh longs for You in a dry and weary land without water." May I be in love, brotherhood, and true unity with all my friends and companions, and receive all insults with true love, as it is written: "Those who are insulted but do not insult, hear their shame but do not respond, act out of love and rejoice in suffering—about them the verse says: 'And those who love Him shall be like the sun going forth in its might,'" as Devorah the Prophetess said, who merited through all the insults people insulted her with to shine like the sun, until she merited to shine sevenfold from the light of the seven days, so that when she would prophesy, torches were seen over her tent, and therefore they called her 'Eshet Lapidot' (Woman of Torches). Merit me to a Kallah (bride) like Miriam and Devorah the Prophetess, and the Well of Miriam which waters all the wells and all the springs every Saturday night for the duration of the whole week. May I not stumble, Heaven forbid, in any forbidden sight, nor in thought, speech, or action, Heaven forbid, and I shall never blemish the Bris (covenant/purity), neither by touch nor by looking, Heaven forbid. I shall know that over every strange woman dwell eighteen thousand trillion trillions of spirits and demons who entice a person to look at them, Heaven forbid, and through this they kill every moment and second another Jew and another Jew. Let no day pass without an hour of Hisbodedus (secluded prayer) and the saying of the Tikkun HaKlali. May I merit a righteous Kallah (bride), and righteous sons at the level of 'Etzem' (Essence) 200 'Nishmat' (Soul of) 790 'Rebbeinu' 268 'HaKadosh' (The Holy) 415 'VeHaNora' (And Awesome) 268 = 1941, and may they merit to fulfill the words of Yehuda ben Teima who says: 'Be bold (77) as a leopard (310), light (130) as an eagle (570), swift (290) as a deer (122), and brave (211) as a lion (231)' = 1941, to do the will of our Father in Heaven. I shall have no desire for money, Heaven forbid, and I shall never think about Parnassah (livelihood), Heaven forbid, and I shall reach a level where I do not keep a single penny with me from one day to the next. Through this, I shall merit the blessing of Eliyahu HaNavi (Elijah the Prophet) of blessed memory: 'The jar (24) of flour (153) shall not (31) be finished (455) and the jug (584) of oil (393) shall not (31) fail (268)' = 1941. In this merit, may I merit to see every day, every moment, and every second Eliyahu HaNavi face to face, and through this merit an immense joy that does not cease even for a single second, and to see the Name Havayah (the Tetragrammaton) before my eyes every moment and second, and not to hurt any Jew, Heaven forbid, but only to make everyone happy, just as Rabbi Beroka merited, who saw Eliyahu HaNavi every day in the middle of the market, and he told him that no one is a 'son of the World to Come' except those two who go around cheering and making people happy [Taanit 22a]. And to be like Abba Ummana [Taanit 21b] who received greetings from Heaven every day, because he was never strict with any person even when they stole his whole house, and he never saw a woman in his life, and he always separated men from women, and even when they sold his belongings before his eyes in the market he was not strict with them, and said 'it is forgiven to you, let it be yours.' May the prayer of Yavetz [Temurah 16a] be fulfilled in me, that I shall be healthy forever, without toothaches, and I shall never have a cold, and I shall only merit worthy students who will spread the Torah of Hashem and the Torah of Rebbe Nachman day and night. May I merit to be a man who 'dwells in tents' (studies Torah), to study thirty-six hours consecutively, and to always speak the absolute truth and not lie. To know Shas (Talmud), Rambam, Tur, Shulchan Aruch, Ktzot HaChoshen, Netivot HaMishpat, and Tokpo Kohen, and all the books of Rebbe Nachman and Moharnat (Rabbi Nosson), all by heart, word for word, with proficiency and depth. May I merit to live with all my friends and also my future wife in love, brotherhood, and friendship, and to be among the people (401) who are the healthiest (263) very (51) = 715, so that I can study Torah day and night without interruption. May I merit 'With long (221) days (100) I will satisfy him (394) = 715 and show him My salvation,' and to always live in Jerusalem the Holy City, in the land (291) of Your holiness (424) = 715, and always to wander and be in the upper (161) worlds (554) = 715, in Atika Kadisha (the Ancient Holy One/Keter).

Master of the Universe, merit me to perform complete Teshuvah (repentance) for my blemishes of the Bris (covenant/purity), and may I never blemish my Bris again, and through this may I merit to find my zivvug (soulmate). May I always merit to come to the Tzaddik who is a 'Bar Da'at' (possessor of great knowledge), who in his original Torah insights knows how to connect two opposites, as Moharnat (Rabbi Nosson) writes (in Tefilah 45, Part 2): 'Blessed G-d, great in knowledge, merit us in Your abundant mercy and reveal to us in Your immense kindness the true Tzaddik who is a great Bar Da'at; merit us to find him and to draw close to him in truth, and to hear Torah from his holy mouth. Have mercy on the collective of Israel who find it difficult to find their zivvug (soulmate), and help them in the blink of an eye, just as You helped Yosef HaTzaddik, about whom it is said: "And the house of Yaakov shall be fire, and the house of Yosef a flame, and the house of Esav for stubble," and he merited to find Asnat + 1 = 511, which is the gematria (numerical value) of "In light" (209) "Fire" (301) = 511. Please, Merciful and Gracious One, You wrote in Proverbs: "House and wealth are the inheritance of fathers, but from Hashem comes a prudent wife." Merit me also with a prudent wife, just as You merited Yosef HaTzaddik who merited Asnat, who is seven times Chochmah (Wisdom) 7 x 73 = 511. Please, Merciful and Gracious One, merit me also to rectify all my blemishes of the Bris (covenant/purity), "My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen," and I shall never blemish my Bris again, and I shall no longer know what blemishes of the Bris are. In this merit, merit me also, just as You merited Yosef HaTzaddik who is called "Ben Zekunim" (son of old age), with a wife whose gematria (numerical value) is "Avraham was old, advanced in days," and therefore Asnat 510 + 1 = 511 is the gematria of "Avraham (248) Zaken (old - 157) Ba (advanced - 3) BaYamim (in days - 102)" = 511. Please, Merciful and Gracious One, may I merit from this day forward to perform complete Teshuvah (repentance), and to be in joy always, and to pass through the entire stature of joy which is made of 248 limbs and 365 sinews. May I merit to enter with all my 248 limbs and 365 sinews into the stature of joy, and strengthen me and embolden me at every time and moment to be awakened more and more to be in joy always. I shall always increase in joy, song, and melodies, for Chatan (Groom - 458) Kallah (Bride - 55) + 2 = 515 is the gematria of Shirah (Song) = 515, which is the gematria of the two angels Metatro"n (314) Yefeifiya"h (201) = 515. May I merit through my complete Teshuvah (repentance) for the blemishes of the Bris, and by the fact that I will never blemish my Bris again, that the two angels Metatro"n and Yefeifiya"h shall be impregnated within me and my Kallah (bride), and through this we shall find one another in the blink of an eye.

Master of the Universe, Almighty, from Whom no purpose is withheld, merit me to the point within the letter 'Bet' of Bereishit (In the beginning), which is the secret of the Geulah (Redemption), the secret of "For the increase of the realm and for peace there is no end" (Tikkun 29). Please, Merciful and Gracious One, Almighty, from Whom no purpose is withheld, give me my true spouse in the blink of an eye, and may she be one who fears Heaven to the ultimate degree, in the secret of "to leave a blessing for your house," in the secret of "Hashem acquired me at the beginning of His way." May I merit the worthy Kallah (bride) about whom it is said: "A locked garden is my sister, my bride; a locked spring, a sealed fountain." Through her, may I merit the 'Garden' (53) portions of the Torah, to understand them according to Pshat (literal), Remez (hint), Drush (homiletic), and Sod (secret), and may all the six hundred thousand interpretations that exist in every letter and every word be revealed to me. Please, Merciful and Gracious One, merit me to the wine that gladdens, to the wine preserved in its grapes, the wine of the Torah, which is drawn from the Sefirah (Divine attribute) of Binah (Understanding), through which You created the whole world. Save me from 'clusters of bitterness' and from 'the wine of cruel serpents,' as it is written: "For their clusters are bitter" and "the wine of cruel serpents," which comes through the terrible blemishes of the Bris (covenant/purity) in which I have stumbled from my youth until this very day. Please, Merciful and Gracious One, merit me to rectify the Name Matzpatz = 300, which is the root of 'the wine preserved in its grapes,' and may I merit a Kankan (vessel) = 300 full of old wine, and to rectify the blemish of Adam HaRishon (the first man), for through his blemish of the Bris, the preserved wine was turned into the wine of cruel serpents. Please, Merciful and Gracious One, help me now that from this day forward I shall never blemish the Bris again, from now and forever, and I shall never touch a forbidden place again, and I shall never look at a forbidden place, Heaven forbid, until the end of my life. Every time I dress and undress, it shall be with the peak of modesty in awesome holiness and purity. May I merit to be sanctified with the holiness of Rabbeinu HaKadosh (the holy Rebbe), and also in the Mikvah (ritual bath) may I merit to behave with the peak of holiness and purity, and only go when other people are present. Please, Merciful and Gracious One, merit me to be sanctified with all the holinesses in the world, for You are Almighty and no purpose is withheld from You, and You can in the blink of an eye sanctify me with all the holinesses in the world and save me from the "cup of staggering." Merit me to the wine of the Torah, that I may study Torah day and night, and merit the wine that gladdens, which gladdens the heart of G-d and men, about which it is said: "And wine gladdens the heart of man," which are "the precepts of Hashem are upright, gladdening the heart."

Master of the Universe, Almighty, from Whom no purpose is withheld, You can in the blink of an eye remove the Sama"el (the Accuser) from within my eyes, for Ayin (Eye) = 130 + 1 = 131, the gematria (numerical value) of Sama"el = 131. Please, Merciful and Gracious One, true Compassionate One, merit me with holiness and purity, and remove the Sama"el from my eyes in the blink of an eye, for You are Almighty and no purpose is withheld from You. By uprooting, removing, and eradicating the Sama"el from my eyes, and by my meriting the full rectification of the two eyes and the nose—so that I shall no longer look with an 'evil eye' at any person in the world, nor be angry with any person in the world—through this, merit me to the secret of the letter Aleph. For the secret of the Aleph is the secret of the two eyes and the nose: the two Yuds correspond to the two eyes, and the Vav corresponds to the nose. By a person guarding his two eyes and his nose, he merits the 'Great Aleph,' the secret of the Aleph of "Adam, Shet, Enosh" which Moshe merited, which is the secret of the thousand lights that Moshe merited, which are the secret of the wonderful ornaments that Israel merited at the Giving of the Torah when they said "Na'aseh VeNishmah" (We will do and we will hear). Please, Merciful and Gracious One, You wrote in Tractate Sotah 30b: 'Our Rabbis taught: Rabbi Yossi the Galilean expounded: At the time that Israel ascended from the Sea, they set their eyes to say Song.' Merit me, in the merit of guarding the eyes to the ultimate degree, so that I see nothing [forbidden], to sing every day the Song of the Sea, as it is written: "Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings You have established strength because of Your adversaries, to still the enemy and the avenger," for even the fetuses in their mothers' wombs said Song. Merit me, in the merit of guarding the eyes, to the 'plunder of the Sea,' and may I merit the aspect of "she who stays at home divides the spoil." May I merit, in the merit of guarding the eyes, to illuminate the way in the sea, and through this to find my spouse in the blink of an eye, Amen.
