Why Get Married? – The Daily Chizzuk by Rabbi Eliezer Berland Shlit”a

THE DAILY CHIZZUK OF OUR REBBE, THE GAON AND TZADDIK, RABBI ELIEZER BERLAND SHLIT”A – “WE GET MARRIED IN ORDER TO BRING THE KING MESSIAH”

WEDNESDAY, 30 SIVAN 5782 – “A PERSON SHOULD ALWAYS LIVE IN THE [SAME] PLACE AS HIS RABBI”

These are his holy words:

If it’s not in the mikveh [before the wedding], with kashrut and a “Leshem Yichud” [prayer], going to the Kotel beforehand and praying to Hashem that only holy souls will come out of this, souls of people devoted to Torah, souls of servants of Hashem…

As Rabbi Natan of Breslov says, [that we get married so that] Mashiach ben David will descend from them.

For what do we get married?  Rabbi Natan asks: For what does a person get married?  For lust a person gets married?  [Then] it’s better that they won’t have a wedding!!  It’s preferable that he won’t get married, for him to sit in some corner!!

In the Or HaChaim, it’s brought that couples don’t know at all for what they get married.  Rabbi Natan screams bitterly about this – how do you get married at all?

Now [at the time of the shiur] it’s the Counting of the Omer.  [People] don’t get married.  This is a miracle – so Rabbi Natan says: for what do we get married?  For what?

What Avimelach?  For the lust?  A person thinks that he already has a wife [that he’s married], so lust is permissible.  Then a child with a defect will be born.

People don’t understand why children are born with defects.  The entire lust is a punishment [to a person].  The lust is a lust of the eyes.

After the sin of Adam HaRishon, we fell into this lust.  If there hadn’t been the sin of Adam HaRhson, this lust wouldn’t even exist.  Adam HaRishon wanted there to be [free] choice, so he did everything deliberately.

Also Avraham descended to Egypt.  The Ramban says that he did a great sin, but why did he descend?  In order to subdue this impurity.

WHY LIVE NEAR THE TZADDIK?

“And Rabbi Chiya bar Ami said in the of Ulla: “A person should always live in the place of his rabbi” (Berachot 8a).  One must live in the place of his rabbi.  The moment that he lives in the place of his rabbi, then he has fear of Heaven, and he doesn’t marry whoever he feels like.

Shlomo was king over the whole world, emperor over the entire world.  The Queen of Sheba came because every king brought his daughter and coerced him to marry [her].

Shlomo didn’t want to.  He wanted to be strong – “And so, at the time of Shlomo’s old age, his wives led his heart astray” (I Melachim 11:4) – because they all worshipped idolatry.

When Shlomo married them, they agreed to not worship idolatry, but after a week, after a month, after a year, they already worshipped idolatry.  He was king for forty years, so forty years they worshipped idolatry.
