Religious Nationalist Group at Shiur by Rav Eliezer Berland Shlit”a

On Monday, 28 Av, a group of talmidim of our Rebbe Rav Eliezer Berland shlit”a belonging to the Religious Nationalist movement came to the Rav’s home to hear words of the Living God, in a shiur of flaming fire.

Below is a short summary of the shiur from amongst the Rav’s words:

The Rav began with Chizzuk in the matter of the holiness of a person and spoke about the controversy of Korach against Moshe, that no one from the congregation was in favor of Moshe Rabbeinu.  From there, the Rav moved on to speak about the brothers Shimon and Levi who killed the residents of Shechem; for most of the shiur, the Rav discussed the dispute between the Rambam and Ramban on why the residents of Shechem were liable to death.

In the midst of this, the Rav spoke about the Plague of the Firstborn, that the Egyptian women came to Moshe and claimed to him that also those who were not firstborn were killed.  Moshe said to them: All those who are dead amongst you are firstborns; the Rav spoke about the level of the Jewish firstborns.  The Rav said that if Moshe had killed Zimri, he would have sweetened the decree of not entering the Land.

Afterwards, he went on to speak about the wayward and rebellious son, that there never was such a thing and never will be, and spoke about the numerous qualifications that are required for executing a wayward and rebellious son, that there needs to be a warning within three seconds, and this is why a Sanhedrin which executed once in seventy years was considered one which executes a lot, because if they managed to bypass all the qualifications and requirements for execution, they were considered one which executes a lot.  Likewise, he spoke about the controversy between Yosef and his brothers about whether there is the law of a limb from a living animal in fowl.  Towards the end of the shiur, the Rav spoke about the level of Mount Girizin.  After forty minutes, the Rav concluded the shiur by returning to the subject of the killing of the residents of Shechem by Shimon and Levi, explaining the opinion of the Ramban.
