WATCH: Rav Berland at the funeral of his brother Rav Yehezkel Berland, z’tl
The fourth day of Chol Hamoed Pesach, 5778, was meant to be a day of joy and simcha. A large hall had been booked in Jerusalem where many hundreds of the Rav’s followers and students, including rabbonim, were scheduled to celebrate Chol Hamoed with our rabbi and teacher, Rav Eliezer Berland.
However, shortly before the event was due to start, and even as the crowds had already started to gather, the distressing news reached us that the Rav’s younger brother, Rav Yechezkel Berland, z’tl, had finally succumbed to his long illness.
Arrangements were swiftly made for Rav Yechezkel Berland, z’tl, to be buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. The large crowds of people left the hall, and accompanied Rav Eliezer Berland, shlita, to the levaya (funeral) of his much-loved younger brother instead.
Baruch Dayan HaEmet, blessed is the True Judge.
Many rabbis, chassidim and simple Jews accompanied the levaya of Rav Yechezkel Berland, z’tl. May he be a true meilitz (advocate) for the nation of Israel.
