Shiur for Residents of Moshav Ora and Ein Karem at R’ Berland’s Home

On Monday night, 25 Iyar, members of the Shuvu Banim community from Moshav Ora merited to enter the holy abode of our Rebbe Rav Eliezer Berland shlit”a for a special shiur.

At the beginning of the shiur, the Rav spoke about how the kings of the House of David are opposite the offerings of the tribal princes.  Likewise, the Rav spoke about the Agadah about the Romans siege on Jerusalem and the flight of Rabban Yochanan ben Zakai, and about Rabbi Akiva’s statement about Rabbi Yochanan “Who makes wise men retreat and makes their knowledge foolish” (Yeshaya 44:25), that he didn’t request that Jerusalem be spared [that at the moment that he could have requested from the Roman commander to spare Jerusalem, he couldn’t think of what to say].  Also the Rav mentioned the words of Rebbe Nachman, that in all the prayers, Rabbeinu is the one who enters us in ibur and prays.  The Rav continued with words of Agadah about the prophecy of Daniel, which was fulfilled in Belshazzar in that his reign was ended when Darius and Cyrus killed him, only that he was in death throes until the moment of dawn because no reign touches its companion by even a hairsbreadth.

The Rav also related the story of the return to Judaism of his student Rav Shalom Arush shlit”a, who was a paramedic in the IDF and was once flying over Egypt while being fired on.  Rav Arush screamed “God, save me,” but after the war forgot that he had screamed to Hashem, until he was involved in an accident and the doctors told him that only God could save him.  Really, he saw great miracles, and in the merit of this he was aroused to do teshuva, and as is known, that he reached the home of Rav Berland shlit”a.

After this, the Rav spoke of the issues of the day, regarding the great miracles that there were in operation “Shield and Arrow,” that 1,200 missiles were launched at Israel without Jewish casualties.  He said that all the eliminations that there were in Gaza — that they killed, amongst others, thirteen senior terrorists — were all secrets of the 13 Attributes of Mercy, and all of this was Divine providence in the aspect of “In one direction they will come out to you, and in seven directions they will flee before you.”

Towards the end of the shiur, the Rav spoke about the question of Rabbi Avraham ben R’ Nachman in Be’er Likutim — Why is the verse “In a cloud I will appear on the Ark cover” appear after seven parashas of the building of the Tabernacle?  The Rav explained his words that only after Moshe Rabbeinu included himself in all the tribal princes, and especially in Nachshon ben Aminadav from the tribe of Yehudah, was it possible for the Divine presence to appear on the Ark cover.  Over the course of the shiur, the Rav spoke about the Gemara in Kiddushin 29b about the serpent with seven heads, and said that this was a reincarnation of the incident of the concubine in Givah, that the serpent was the concubine, and Abaye was the elder who suggested to the people to enter the house and Rav Acha bar Yaakov was the one who performed the miracles.  After forty minutes of the shiur, the Rav concluded by saying that on this Shavuot holiday the head of each serpent will be removed, and so may we merit to the complete redemption speedily in our days, Amen!
